There are limited posts about any throttle mappers 'round these parts and wondering if anybody has had any hiccups with the SpeedForm Throttle Controller. I found some posts elsewhere but they were limited to the 5.0's vice the 5.2.

I put a Sprint Boost in my 996 GT-3 and it was a night and day difference regarding ability to blip for rpm match when heel/toeing. I am finding the 5.2 in somewhat similar conditions meaning I feel like the rpm response per throttle input is lagging just a tad and would greatly benefit from a re-mapper. I have shimmed out the accelerator 3/8" along with a wider Steeda pedal and ergonomically find this config acceptable but still lacks the 'immediate' rpm response.

Last thing I want to do is confound the ECU and send all 500+ ponies into limp mode (which usually means putting them down :-( so I am curious if anybody has had any issues with the SpeedForm controller.

I'm also wondering what then happens in Sport or Track mode; is it a 1:1 bump or an exponential rate increase that would make the car undriveable and require lowering the controller's sensitivity value when toggling thru the different drive modes.

Thanks much-

~John

I'm curious about what mode are you driving in? I find the Voodoo spins up VERY quickly when heel and toe-ing compared to my other cars and many other cars I've owned but usually I am in Sport or Track.

They are a gimmick, you want better throttle response get it tuned.
We were just talking about this in another thread, but the factory tune has pedal enhancements and changes for the different modes. The plug in ones are garbage, but in the tune you can change the pedal percentage/pedal output easily per mode. From the other thread.

My buddy bought one for his 19 GT A10 auto and he swears he gets better mileage on the economy setting on trips.
As far as quicker responses my manual gives me that in sport mode.

Like ZXMustang aid, you already have variable throttle mapping via your built in drive modes. A tune will allow you to change them with no additional hardware.

If you're vehemently against a tune it will work but throttle response will still vary based on drive mode, and the ECM is still in full control over power delivery. You're simply asking for more and hoping it gives it to you, which is the same as just learning how to drive with the standard pedal mapping.

I think throttle mappers are ripoffs, $300 for that? Hell no.

I have been happy with the Solar body option. Well respected members here who know snake oil from true improvements have agreed.

I emailed Lund about adjusting my tune to increase throttle response to help when I change gears he said they do not touch that part of a tune and it’s the same for every gen 2 mustang. He said if you want more power, increase your boost. Is it power or is it throttle response? He said he can’t help me.

I’ve got at least three buddies with tunes from Knox Tuning and the one common theme between them is the raving about the new throttle response.

Not a surprise at all. Lund usual telling customers no.

Sport mode has the twitchest throttle among the three stock modes. That's why I keep it in Sport mode when on track because it helps me heel toe rev match since stabbing the throttle is enough to increase the RPMs to an adequate level. I find that in normal and track mode a much deeper throttle stab is necessary which can complicate the heel toe maneuver.

@ZXMustang I did happen on a thread with some throttle mapping but have not seen those. Thanks for adding that- what are the 'Sand vs Pedal Output' charts for? Would those be our Weather mode? And the next conclusion would be that Sport and Track both offer the same pedal % vs pedal position values- is that correct? Can't say I've really felt that much of a difference.

Regarding the 'scam' or 'garbage' comments, I would agree IF the hunt was for more RWHP. But as for throttle response, I'll never forget what my old Dodge D-50 felt like once I went to a 2.5" exhaust and a Cyclone AR header....the throttle response was magnificent. I got the same feeling in my 996 GT-3 40 years later when adding a Sprint Boost throttle mapper (3 diff options with 9 variable settings each). H/T blips are far easier since not having to bury the side of my foot in it to get the rpms up and makes a (relatively) stock exhaust behave as thought it's an open exhaust. I'm sure some confuse this with higher HP, but we know that is simply an illusion and not reality.

As far as tunes go, Calif is now checking the CHKSUM ECU value on certain M/M/Y domestic vehicles and I know of a handful of early 2000 Mustangs with Prochargers (WITH an EO sticker!) getting the bad news at smog as one of my clients gets paid to put 'em all back to stock. Have not heard of any S550's getting the Heisman yet but that's not a radar blip I wish to be on so no tune for me just yet.
