I have 45k miles on my 2020 GT, I developed the tick after my very first oil change to 5W-30 (Full Synth), prior to that I've always ran 5W-20 and never heard anything unusual. A Bottle of Ceratec didn't help at all. It seems that a lot of other people are experiencing the tick after their oil changes, many of them saying they developed it after switching to 5W-30 or 5W-40. I was planning to use 5W-40 for my next change since I drive like I wanna meet Jesus but now i'm torn between the added protection or getting rid of that stupid noise and switching back to 5W-20.

i used 5w-40 in mine for the first oil change I did. it was ticking before and still ticks now. Drive it like you want to meet jesus and dont think about it. The coyote isn't a simple pushrod LS engine. 4x the camshafts, 4x the timing chains with eccentric shaped timing gears that cause the main tensioners to oscillate continuously which somehow helps the VVT work.

I feel your pain with the tick. I’m Considering 1 quart of Lucas Synthetic oil stabilizer to see if that helps

Well gee, another tick and oil thread! Kidding, I think.:giggle:

Seriously this has been discussed to death over the past five years. As far as the tick there has never, ever, been shown a direct correlation between oil weight and the tick. You will read a thousand posts, five hundred say it might help and the other five hundred say put some Ceratec in and forget about it. Use your choice of 5W-20 or 5W-30 and some Ceratec and the tick will most likely become inaudible.

I started to make a list of the main items where owners decided not to follow the specifications of the factory that designed and built the cars, cross-referenced with the posts asking for advice to fix what subsequently went wrong. Then compounded by adding more "fixes" until it was almost impossible to sort out what started the whole mess.

The list got too long so I gave up.

I thought people went up in viscosity to remedy the tick not down? I went from 5w-20 to 5w-30 and i don't really notice it anymore. From what I've seen the tick is really just an annoyance not an issue.

Didn’t have it before my first oil change and it developed after the dealer used full synthetic 5w-20. Wonder what the original spec is from the factory. One bottle of Ceratec fixed it for me though.

Doesn’t matter. Some folks hear an improvement with a change in viscosity, others don’t. It’s a crapshoot. Bottom line is stick with the manufacturers recommendations and if it really bothers you, Ceretec.

I've run 5w30 since the first oil change (16k miles ago) and 1 bottle of ceratec and have never developed the tick.

All I know is that my brand new 21 GT didn't have any tick until I had Ford do the first oil change at 5k miles. Did some internet research and saw that Ceratec helped them, so I went for it and put it in mine. Tick went away. Maybe I'm just lucky.

There is a misconception that the tick develops. It doesn’t. Every engine has it. It’s just that some are quite, and some are quite noisy.

No, not lucky. Virtually everyone on here that’s used it has had good results

I know this sounds backwards but used oil will keep your motor quieter than new oil. I would just drive it and it will likely get quieter as the oil gets some miles on it.

Different platform but my Nissan V8 has the coyote tick. It’s always at its worst with fresh oil. It slowly diminishes as the oil accumulates some miles. Been this way for over 100,000 miles.
My coyote is similar. I’m personally not a fan of oil additives. I’d rather have some tick than add ceretec.
