I wanted to get some opinions/advice. I've got a Gibson axle back system on my GT and it was suggested to me that I get an intake as well as a tune as there could be potential "issues" down the road. Now at the same time, the person suggesting this has a relative that owns a place that can do this type of work and coulda just been trying to get them some business. Would you all say this is something I should look in to or do?

so after a 3 week try of the mrr intake i've decided its a piece of shit.. makes the engine sound like its trying to hard.. i guess you pay a cheap price for a cheap product.. luckily im not to concerned in purchasing another CAI anytime soon.

I think it would be interesting for someone to rig up a very sensitive vacuum gauge and hook it to the intake tract somewhere after the filter and before the turbo, then go run it all out. This would tell us more about whether/how much the stock filtration setup is actually restricting airflow than 1000 ads by companies trying to sell cai's. My suspicion is that anything that can be done with a stock turbo is probably well-supplied by the stock setup. From a design standpoint, I think making the factory air filter not restrict flow excessively would be considered low hanging fruit to meet your power goals, certainly easier than redesigning engine parts. If you look at vehicles that make good power for a given engine size, you'll probably notice that their intake and exhaust systems are pretty well sorted out. You won't find anything terribly restrictive in those systems, because they already optimized that stuff in their quest for power. A prime example: I had an '09 dodge hemi truck. It ran pretty hard for a stone stock pickup on 87 octane, and I got to looking around under the hood. One of the first things I noticed was that it had a cai from the factory, and it wasn't small. Sure enough, reports of little to no improvement started coming in when other owners went out and bought various aftermarket cai setups. Perhaps we have that going on here?

Okay so I see a lot of comments here claiming that an after market intake is practically useless for performance gains. So how would you explain these gains from MAP for example with no tune. Are these numbers manipulated? Someone please explain.

I need some advise.

In the States, I was driving a EB with manual transmission and MMR intake. It was awesome and got a lot of compliments on it. The only annoyance was that under normal acceleration I could hear the intake sucking up air. Kinda a hissing noise, if you will.

Now I'm living overseas again and have a new Ecoboost PP with automatic transmission here.

I could control the sucking noise with a manual, but with an automatic I'm a little concerned about which CAI to go with... I'd love another MMR, but I think it would be hissing all the time.

Can any automatic transmission owners recommend an intake that isn't always hissy, but sounds good when you want it to?

Ive tried dozens of different air intake systems over the years for myself and customers cars,And I always go back with the stupid simple solution,I love the way the airaid mit pipe feels with a stock airbox and stock air cleaner for the hotter summer months,Then I switch to the aem dry panel filter in the stock box for the winter air,It helps with keeping tip in power still responsive,That nice low speed cruise torque that everybody likes,I may even venture into looking at how the box is receiving air as well come winter time, Went 10s years ago with a 5.0 pr factory stocker, juice and stock airbox, I cant imagine you cant do the same with a turbo car,make power with them anyways.

Just read over all 21 pages and I think for the wifes ecoboost I am just going to drop a green filter in there for her.

Worst case ill get the Airaid pipe is she wants.

Yep,They run well stock,I still have to install an intercooler before I can even data log for a tune,I def jumped the gun and bought more for the car then needed,Ive got a down pipe and wastegate too that needs to go on,Cant run that unless I tune for it ass well,This tune better be worth it when all said and done,ive heard only good things from tune+ Bassically I'll be 2 grand in parts and tune for maybe a 100hp all said and done.Might be a 1260 car when done,Maybe?? But probably not.

Not sure but I do know the GT350-style (M-9603-M23) one comes with the stock GT350 filter, have to upgrade to the K&N (M-9601-G) to get the performance filter. That might affect sound though I'm no expert
