I don't think it'll ever make a difference

The intercooler was tested in high 50 degree weather and dropped charge air temps 35 degrees through repeated 4th gear pulls. The loss of boost just about matched the benefits of lower temps and there was no hp increase. That's not a guess, the dyno chart shows no significant gain anywhere. If you do a dyno pull when it's 100 degrees out and the intercooler brings charge air temps down from, lets say 180 (what they might have gotten to stock) to 145 (what they are with the intercooler) isn't it still a wash because I've still lost about a pound or 1.5 pounds of boost, which is an equivalent amount of power to dropping the charge air 35 degrees. An engine looses about 1% of power for every 12-15 degrees of increased intake air temp. 1% of 310 hp for my ecoboost is about 3 hp. Dropping it 35 degrees will gain about 8 or 9 hp. For every pound of boost on these turbo motors you gain about 5 hp. So I regain about 8 hp through lower charge air temps but loose about 7 hp through loss of boost, and that is a constant. To my line of thinking that ratio doesn't improve when it gets hotter, but stays the same. Am I making sense or not??????

So before I ask this question, I'd just like to say a few things. #1, this is my first "sports car". #2 I've always wanted a mustang and I was finally able to get one. #3 I really don't know much about cars when you get right down to it. I know I like to go fast, I know I like the car to sound good.

With that being said, I have been throwing around the idea of getting the new mishimoto intercooler kit with the piping included, along with a cat back exhaust (gibson or magnaflow most likely), and also adding a synthamax airraid intake.

But with all of the "loss in boost" comments I've read, I'm starting to think I'd be better off just adding the exhaust and intake and just leaving it be after that.

I don't plan to add a tune to the car unless ford racing releases the "warranty friendly" one they've been talking about.

So you guys/gals that are experts in this area... what are your thoughts?

Please no flames.. just help a guy out who's not that intelligent in this area...

Thanks in advance.

Bolt ons will give very minimal gains. Majority of the gains will be from a tune. If warranty is an issue, you could always check out the roush tune but it's on the pricey side. I recommend just a muffler delete for the exhaust. Intercooler are great so keeping temperatures down to avoid heat soak causing power lose.

This thread is too long to read all the 395 posts.

So.. what is the best "bang for the buck" intercooler?
55-70 fahrenheit during summer time...Pretty cold...North-Norway...
I'm going with adamtune when the Accessport support the Euro Ecoboost.

Thanks, Espen

Bang for buck might probably be Levels performance. But they are not replying to my emails, so they either do not send it to Europe or they do not care about their potential customers.

So Mishimoto or MAP then?

Levels is gonna be the best for you money. I'd go MAP next after them. Mishimoto would be last on my list. To get in contact with Levels hit them up on Facebook.

The best thing to do is to get his number from the website and call him. Nik is a one-man show. He's doing everything from R&D, production, shipping, and everything else by himself. If you call him, you'll get the answers you need a lot quicker.

Edit:
Here's his number: 386-456-8059

What are these recommendations based on?

What if I were to tell you...that both MAP and Mishi intercoolers have the same size core, same shape, are rated for the same HP, and advertise the same pressure loss and both are sold on MAPs website and are probably the exact same intercooler

Just going off what I've personally heard from other people in this thread and the EB community. I personally went with ATM. Adam(Tune +) recommends ATM, Full-Race, and then Levels in that order. Hence why I said Levels first, since the other two aren't even in his top 3. I've heard that MAP is above Mishi as well.

ATM is the best, but it's expensive. I bought my LP intercooler the first week I had my car long before the ATM, FR, or anything else came to the market. If I was going to buy one today, I'd buy the ATM. However, on a budget, you won't beat the LP for the price and performance. The LP and FR perform about the same from my experiences (a local friend has the FR).
