I was surprised to see how blocked off the grill was in front of the airbox on my 2020 bullitt, and I assumed it was to control the air entering the air box and this thread confirms my thoughts.
...
Look at the design of some legit racecars (NASCAR for example). Small grilles for multiple reasons. Larger/open grilles are form>function.

Just goes to show you that people care more about how their car looks than how it performs. Backwards.

His info is based off of running supercharged fords for years. However, he has not had a 5.0L coyote with a whipple or VMP.
I've run multiple FI cars over the years. All of the cars running a MAF close to the filter can be finicky. The MAF sensor is designed to work with the stock airbox setup. Any changes in air flow at all can impact how the car behaves. Especially open filter designs. I have a Cervini grille that I haven't installed yet. I'm hoping the Roush enclosed airbox protects it enough from any air flow changes.
Im still getting use to how soft the gas pedal is. My last car it had a lot more resistance.
I have trouble getting used to the sensitive pedal also. Sometimes you can get into a cycle where the bucking can cause your foot to move back and forth which only exaggerates the issue. lol The Sport+ setting seems to add to the issue due to increases sensitivity. I found that I have to check the log to see if it's me or the car.
I'll have mine dyno tuned by DGR and see if they can maybe dial in the partial throttle tuning better. I'll update with what we come across.
McNews Automotive is another local option. They tuned my Cobra. I plan to go back there soon after I get it ported.
If you're thirsty and try to get a drink from the garden hose, at full tilt, while holding it 1 foot from your face how successful do you think you'll be at just grabbing the water you need?

Your MAF sensor:

I get it to an extent but if a mod hurts performance in anyway I'll have it removed ASAP. Coming from the G/Z platform, there were a lot of members who picked up an aftermarket intake manifold from Company A. Looked really..uh..awkward but good nonetheless. Cost nearly $2,000!

Well, some guys ran them and were losing power everywhere along the curve. Friend of mine worked for Company A so I reached out and asked what the deal was and he stated the company knew it was a dud and it only cost them a fraction to make it for what it was selling for.

I think you guys are focusing more on open grille = car run bad than the fact that it could be other potential possibilities. Yeah some of us like form and function, hence why I bought a Mustang, it looks good, sounds good, performs well, except the ugly ass factory grille on the 2018+MY. And if the naysayers have all the answers, no one has come to a logical conclusion on why Shelby America can run their super snake which is whipple supercharged with a much more open grille design that whipple states not to run because THEY don't offer customizable tune variations. Also airflow can change in many ways not just how its fed into the car, different filters have different flow rates, different elevations have an effect, humidity, etc. So to simply say that an open grille is the only possible culprit seems illogical to me. Also I'm pretty sure lethal runs a grille delete on their whipple car.

To add I just drove his car after cleaning the MAF and installing the MGW shifter and new clutch lines. Didn't detect the surge that was present prior, we will see if it pops back up.

*Your friend's tuner hinted that was likely the issue. Personally, if my tuner advises I need to make a change for the car to run correctly or efficiently, I'm all ears. Everyone here is just telling you to follow the advise of one of the better tuners for the S550 platform. If you think you and your buddy know better than him...by all means, go with a different tuner.

Shelby engineered their grille to work with that car. Just because something works for that set-up doesn't mean it will work for yours. F150 has a Coyote also and can run a Folgers coffee can as an intake. Think that works on your Mustang?

Are going to keep asking the same question until you get an answer you like? Should've been a lawyer my man. That said, glad to hear it's running better and hope the issue is resolved.

Sigh. You are denying that the open grill is the culprit. One damned easy way to find out - drink a 6 pack of longnecks and use that to stuff up the gaping holes in your aftermarket grill.

BTW, you can't tune away physics.

This! Placing cardboard on the outside, drive it and if it fixes it remove it and go buy a sheet of HDPE in black to mount on the inside of the grille if you want to keep that grille.

I had surging at cruise speeds only and was told the same thing about my aftermarket grill. I have 2016 GT PP 6-spd with VMP Odin that I installed myself and I couldn't believe the surging issue was caused by my aftermarket MMD grill that I love and had on car for 4 years. I was actually told to block off the inlet with a towel just temporarily to see if the surge went away and it did. With my MMD grill you can reach in all the way and actually touch the air filter. I then tried partially blocking the inlet with tape and cardboard (for testing) even some black putty to block say 80% of the opening all to no avail and I eventually put my upper stock grill back on that I luckily had sitting in the garage which has fixed the surging at cruise speeds issue. Now is the tune perfect? Not yet. Let's just say I'm on my 7th tune revision and I might just pull the trigger get my car dyno tuned.

Shame since there are a lot of good looking options out there, including your own, that just give the MAF a fit.

Multiple people have reported having to have the odin TB replaced more than once before they got a working one.
May have nothing to do with the tune or MAF signal at all..
