Once again, you are spot on the money, Earl. I finally got off my butt, pulled the cover back, and tried Surround. I only do CarPlay tunes but the switch made a SIGNIFICANT IMPROVEMENT in the audio quality. Many thanks, amigo.

One of these days I'll probably follow Mark's lead and upgrade the speakers and amp. The low end is still pretty feeble but the sound "pressence" was much improved.

I measured the front door speakers (4 wire connector) and they appear to be dual 4 ohm, so i assume there running at 2ohm load so not sure there is anything to be gained by adding new speakers without doing anything else.

Really, Tony? Replacing a five dollar speaker with a two hundred dollar version wouldn't help? Sure SEEMS like it would and IIR, Mark (@marklboris) certainly obtained an improvement when he replaced his, (or my memory is totally off, which isn't anything new.) :-)

You would think right? Well i went down this road with another vehicle, 2015 SS sedan, replaced Every speaker in the car with correct ohm aftermarket replacement, the new speakers looked 300% better but all said and done.....the overall sound, maybe, maybe 5-10% better. So while they may look better unless you address the amp/sound processor/head unit you talking minimal overall gain. Again this is my real life experience. If someone tells me to replace the front mustang speakers with speaker XYZ and it will make huge difference then I would do it.

OK, copy all, Tony and I must say, I'm more than a little surprised.

I have to REALLY dig into the memory banks to pull up data on "stereo-related" physics but at least back then, you didn't want to mis-match the impedance between the amp and speakers. Putting a 2ohm driver in place of a 4ohm will work but other than volume, I don't think it improves the physics. (audio quality)

This is why my brain tells me it IS possible to just replace drivers and get a noticeable, (much more than 5-10 percent,) improvement. But it's been way too many years since I did anything with car audio. Perhaps Mark will chime in and I need to go back and re-read his original post.

I picked up the signal from the existing wires going into the OEM sub. There are 4 wires as it is a dual voice coil speaker. There is a green and black wire to one side, yellow and purple to the other. I could have used just one side but I combined the green and yellow (both are +) and black and purple (both are -) and ran them to the input on the JL amp.
My wires don't match the colors you stated any thoughts? Is your plug the same?

Can anyone confirm part number or VIN for a mustang with NO subwoofer? Doesn't need to be GT500 just want a part number or VIN so that i can order the right side trunk carpet/covering that does not have any holes in it. I assume this piece exists? Thanks in advance

Well i finally got done with my amp and sub install and it turned out pretty nice. TOTALLY overkill and now that i have more bass than i could ever want it just emphasizes how bad the rest of the system is. B & O is definately lacking in volume so the rest of the system is for another day. I can turn down the gain and it appeases me for the moment. I used 2 Kicker Solobaric L7 Q class subs and Kicker 1600.1 amp to power them, along with moving battery to trunk.
