I'm curious how durable the stock clutch in an S550 GT is. Is there a difference between the 2015-2017 and 2018+ models? Can these clutches stand up to burnouts or hard launches? I am well aware that, generally speaking, abusive use will eventually destroy any clutch but I'm curious what people's opinion of the stock clutch is. My car is only a few weeks old with 800 miles on it, so I have very little experience with it.

No idea how durable but the 2018+ uses a twin disc clutch and a dual mass flywheel so it's quite a bit different than previous models.

Stock power levels it should last a very long time as long as you aren't a moron. The 2015 to 17 are a single disk and the 18 and up are dual disk but both clutches are junk as far as shifting the car above 6000 rpm.

Plenty of reports that the stock 15-17 GT clutch is hot garbage. 33k on mine and already having slipping. I drive my car way more conservative than many others.

Probably why they upgraded the clutch in 2018.

I'm almost at 55k miles in a 16 gt and haven't had any slipping issues.

The only problem I had a couple of times was it wouldn't go into 1st gear but on second try it did without a problem. It hasn't happened since then.

I'm aware that it will go out eventually but for now it seems fine and shifts fine. Thank God 👍🏻☺

40k on mine and it clamps down harder than a crazy girlfriend trying to get pregnant. Anyways the 15-17 they can handle around 600 wheel without a problem. Of course its service life will drop at that level.

From all the posts I have read on failures and my own personal failure, 15-17 clutches fail from high RPM shifts, north of 7000. Clutches work perfectly fine and then for some reason, usually at the worst time, when you push in the clutch for a high rpm shift the centrifugal force pulls the friction material off the clutch disc as it is no longer squeezed between the pressure plate and the flywheel. After that happens you have nothing but a tow coming your way and a bill.

slipping at 33k?? I'm almost at 51k and I have no slipping. Mind you I have beat the socks off this car, and I taught 2 people how to drive stick in it.

Yeah, it’s shameful. I truthfully don’t hammer the car that hard. I have fun with it, but RARELY do any hard launching, never power shifted it, no sticky tires, etc.

High RPM lockouts are from the body mounted shifter, not so much the clutch (although occasionally it can actually be the clutch). Get a barton or MGW and call it a day.

My buddy traded his 2015 Mustang gt with 83k miles on it. Never had issues with clutch.

Just replaced my '16 GT's clutch at 72k, clutch looked fine actually, good life left in it. My issues was the slave cylinder inside it went bad.

I don't do burnouts, but I have plenty (hundreds) of hard launches.

This is exactly what happened to me. Failed at 26k miles on a high rpm shift to third.

the question is does a 18+ clutch pack bolt up with no/little effort to a 15-17 car?
