Because I personally saw no gains on my car at the track.. which is where I will be at often. My intake was supposed to give me an advertised 22rwhp without a tune. It did not. If I HAD gained this horsepower it would have shown in my trap speed at the track. Trap speed is a foolproof way to see if your car gained power or not. Mine did not.I don't quite understand what you're saying. How can all these companies claim HP and Torque gain with or without a tune, and you're saying it doesn't work?
And even if it was the tune, how can the gains be the same with the stock intake as an aftermarket, more expensive intake. That way, why would anyone want to buy an aftermarket CAI if their stock intake will function the same way.
Also, I thought a CAI is one of the most famous N/A mods. I could be wrong, I'm still learning about all of this, but to me it doesn't make sense.
Btw, since you asked earlier, I will not be using my car to drag race, it's my daily drive, and I just wanted to pump the power up a bit to make it more fun.
tell you what... if you plan on going with an aftermarket intake. Do a before/after dyno with the hood CLOSED on the car.. not open. If you are going with a tune, ask your tuner to send a tune for the stock intake, and one for the aftermarket. With the hood closed, let us know how much power you gained.
I am not trying to slam the CAI manufacturers.. I am simply stating that for MY needs, I am better off with the stock intake. At the track, lower IATs are important. I did not notice a benefit with the aftermarket CAI... sure, it can lower the IAT once you get moving... but that does NO good at a dragstrip when the car is pulling timing at the start line.
We also have other members who have had better results at the dragstrip with stock intake vs aftermarket.
But for YOUR use, just to drive around with, and not be as concerned with IAT etc, you will like the CAI. It does give a nice grunt sound under WOT, they DO look good under the hood. As far as customer service, I can only speak to the vendor I dealt with and David with Steeda was awesome to deal with, and I highly recommend talking with him to help you make your mind up.
