It doesn't seal along the driver's side or in front. There's actually a very significant gap. The back edge and passenger edge do, and tightly.

well on driver side it does but not nearly as well because of the attachment for the fender is there but mine sealed so good in fact steeda sent me a 2nd box because 1st one was 3mm too tall on one corner pushing on my hood.

I used to be pro JLT but their owner and is a giant crybaby so Steeda all the way!

I thought about Roush since it has the best fit, and I would get a Lund Racing tune with it, but I don't know about the gains, there aren't that many people using the Roush with a tune.

Again, can someone clarify what is the problem they are facing with the Steeda box not sealing properly? And is it easy to modify or cut the factory resonator? I have never done anything myself in a car, I usually pay someone to do it. So properly I will not be the one installing the CAI but I need to know so I can guide him if he doesn't know what he's doing. I mean the garage I'm sure installed CAI's before but is this one any different than other CAI's regarding the installation? Do you think I should attempt doing it myself?

It's really not a problem and will have no impact on 99% of the the people out there. Those that drag race in hot climates may see higher than stock intake temps while staging. This is going to be true of virtually any open element filter

If you have ever taken a hacksaw to a pvc pipe (or think you could) than you can easily handle the install. That's all that is required; cut a piece of plastic tube where it meets another section. There really is no need to pay someone to do this, and is truly a good mod to do yourself. Should you choose to use a shop, they will have zero problem with it, but I'd really encourage you to try it yourself.

I'm not gunna drag race, but I do live in a hot climate. You're saying the temperature of the intake rises, does this have any negative effect? Or actually let me ask this, is there any disadvantages of installing a CAI with a tune?

Regarding the installation, I've watched the installation video by Steeda, and it looks easy enough but also confusing :headbonk:
I'm not sure if I'll be able to do it, I just have a feeling I'll disassemble everything then be lost on how to put it all back together. I called the shop that installed my catback and springs, and the guy said he could do it. The thing is, they probably never installed one in an S550 before. Other cars, I'm sure, maybe even older Mustangs, so I dunno if the S550 is any different.

For all intents and purposes, no. You'll be fine. As soon as you start moving any increase in temps drops back down extremely quickly. The average driver would never know the temps increased if it were not for the display in the dash. If it were really an issue there would not be tens of thousands of these out there. I think a lot of us, myself included, get a little more wrapped up in the temps than we should.

EDIT: I just noticed you are in Dubai....that's not hot, that's literally a desert. lol I personally would consider staying with the oem box if it were my car.

Think square peg, round hole; everything has it's place and there are no parts close enough to each other to get confused. There aren't any steps you can really do wrong, and in worst-case scenario the oem intake is super simple to re-install.

It's really, really easy. I think when you do it (not if!) you will find you would have been mad at yourself if you had gone ahead and paid a shop to do it.

Think about that in Dubai; their average high temp May-Sep is 100+ degrees with 110-115 not at all out of the question. Now, sit in traffic with an open element and I'll wager you are going to see 150+ intake temps. Do you still think that's not something to at least consider? His environment is an exception, but it is a factor.

I always find these threads really funny. dont do a straw poll if you cant conform your own decision you probably shouldnt even do the mod. everyone is going to have their own story to tell. as for IAT's at the drag strip thats because steeda and JLT are open intakes and AirRaid isnt. as for horse power its just a joke, dynos arent even consistent and tunes are always different. So when someone tells me they made more horsepower with that CAI over another one i just look at them funny. at the end of the day a higher diameter pipe will flow more air than a smaller diameter pipe. and as for the 1-2 hp you think you gained with your X intake over the other X intake.. i just took a big dump and now were even again. these threads are dumb we honestly shouldnt even have them anymore.

I'll second that notion...lol

The followers of a certain intake on this site really do crack me up.

Now that's worrying. What could possibly be the side effects of having the intake temperature get that high? Sometimes I do get stuck in heavy traffic, so I really don't wanna be having any problems. Also, what would be the solution for something like this? Will this be the same situation with/without a tune? Both Steeda and Roush produce gains WITHOUT a tune.

First of all, this is not a HP competition, and I did not ask which of these intakes yield the highest gains.

Secondly, there's no shame in asking other people about something they HAVE on their cars, and whether they are happy with their decision or not. I do not have any dealers for most aftermarket parts, so my only way to know if it's good or not is to research and ask current owners. This got nothing to do with my uncertainty about the mod, and that, in the end, it's my decision.

So before you call these threads dumb or funny, look again at what I asked, and if you have a constructive opinion then say it, otherwise you can just move along :)

The effects of having extreme high intake temps is that the car will pull timing and you won't get as much HP. Nothing bad mechanically will happen to the car. The only way to stay away from the high IAT's is to keep the stock box, buy one that is enclosed like the Airaid, or buy an aftermarket CAI and fab a cover for it like I've seen done from multiple members on S550.

I think some of us are just getting tired of seeing these threads 3-5 times a week. Every single one of these CAI's has been beaten to death. There has been much butthurt and insults thrown. Right now, the Steeda is by far the board favorite. Their marketing team nailed it! Me personally, I believe all these CAI's will be within a couple HP of each other. Go with the one you feel has the best quality and looks the best.

Don't listen to the naysayers, and don't worry about the turds who give you a hard time about asking questions. Too many people on this forum think it's their given right to talk trash or make assumptions without any proof of their opinion.

Your intake temps aren't an issue when you're sitting at idle or at low speeds. The ECU does an excellent job of protecting your motor from extreme heat and cold. Ford does a lot of extreme temp testing on all their vehicles to ensure this. If it were such an issue I highly doubt the rich families in Dubai wouldn't be importing all those exotic cars ;)

Will you see higher intake temps at idle? Probably, but we're not talking about "engine destroying" temps. Hell, I hit 140 the other day while spending an hour in stop and go traffic.

If ultimate power is your goal (which it doesn't sound like it is) you can always get methanol injection to cool your intake charge. Otherwise pick whichever intake you like and fits your overall goal with the car. You'll be just fine with any of those choices.
