I guess I'm just one of the minority who really doesn't care about IATs at idle....my car isn't under load at idle and the temps drop just fine once the car starts moving again.
Same here. We have had 50 days of 90+ degree temps so far this summer and we still have a long ass time to go before those 90+ degree days are done.

With my Steeda CAI, I have not seen above 142 sitting in traffic, in this blazing ass heat. Within 1 mile of driving, my temps are back down to 115-120 and then a few minutes after that it will be down to about 10 over ambient. I am running E85, 100% of the time and I don't notice hardly any drop in power at high IATs while in traffic.

A lot depends on driving conditions. If it's really heat soaked they can stay pretty high for several minutes even at normal driving speeds. My 13GT with a open Airaid intake would get and stay pretty hot during city driving and I could tell a big difference on hot days vs in winter. I suppose I would not care so much if I did all highway driving in a cool climate but I'm 90% city driving and it's hot here 90% of the year.

I've had 160+ so far. Not any more though.

Just to come and touch back on this, i found out why my intake temps were so damn high. I checked the snorkel end of the intake tract, and it seems like when I installed the steeda intake the snorkel side got pushed forward towards the radiator. i took it all apart this morning and reseated everything and intake temps while still hot-ish dropped 25 degrees.

103 while cruising @ 55mph in 88 degree traffic, up to 123 at a long stop light, and only up to around 135 while sitting running parked for 30 minutes.

still hot, but not hellish.

So far with my Steeda CAI, the best I have seen is 5-6 degrees above ambient, at 70mph. Average on the highway is 9-10 above ambient. This is 90-95 degree weather in the humid DC area. At most I've seen high 130s low 140s sitting for awhile at stop lights and in traffic. In a little bit of driving it drops down to 110-115 and goes down further once on the highway.

At first when I saw the climbing IATs I was worried but I don't think it matters because it goes down fairly quickly once you're moving, which is where the power really matters anyway. I don't need to mash the gas at every stoplight.

This is only a lesson in CAIs are pure crap and stop wasting your money on them, or trying to make one work.

So I get it. The warmer IAT's reduce power by pulling timing. Most observations have been in traffic where having 400Hp or 350hp shouldn't matter.....because you're in traffic. I'd be more interested in real world results at the track. How does a covered and open air box perform? How does the open box modified to be a closed box fair at the track?

Also, engineers design these things for most companies. They test all kinds of variables that include piping material, size, filter, box style, maf positioning, maf material etc etc. the testing they do leads them down the road to a final product that gives them the best results. It's funny to me that when someone challenges their design and the company says here are the reasons we didn't to x,y and z that people think they know more than the engineers.

If you don't like the product buy something else. If you don't get the results you want find a product that will.

Or you could always use this...(has been around forever)

No one has to like or appreciate what I did. I like efficiency and I got what I wanted. It was 98° yesterday with an index of 116ish. Sitting in traffic for over five minutes, not moving it creeper up to 138. Which dropped 20° rolling only 200ft

I have been concerned about high IATs, so I changed my Steeda for the Injen, to lower them, since our ambient temps are above 85 in the morning to mid 90's practically year around. The injen really drop the temps in traffic,
but I want to lower them more.

I'm posting this pics of what I did today, because I consider it can improve Steedas as well as other intakes.

First I notice that the housing part of any box close to the header really soaks a lot of heat in traffic. ( just touch the inside part after driving in traffic), which is transfered to the air going in.

With this in mind, I bought "Heatshield Lava shield mats 770003" from Summit Racing.

Then started wrapping the outside.....

And make some testing with the heat blower......

The inside temp lowered about 20F during my heat blower testing, Since I wanted more, I decided to wrap the inside too.....

This time I lowered, about 42 degrees. (After keeping the heat about one minute steady, (175 vs 133F...)

After installed, hardly notice the wrapping......

Another interesing finding is that before starting the car, I compare outside temp vs IAT, (just switch on), and there is a 6F higher IAT! ( 89F vs 83F outside)

Again, this can be done to your Steeda, or any intake, which was the topic of the thread.

I might have to look into this lava mat and give it a shot.
