intake manifold cover question

I installed a UPR catch can today and while removing the intake manifold cover one of the nuts fell down into the front engine area. Is there any concern here with it getting into the serpentine belts or anything else?

Also, what is the purpose for it? Does it really need to be on there?

I found the nut. I went ahead and put the cover back on it.
