When I did my dyno runs they were with the hood down. I didn't record the intake or cylinder head temps but I definitely picked up power. Keep in mind that Steeda did this same test with other brand's products which use an open element filter and claimed to pick up power over them as well.
I have a test design that will require about 40 pulls on a dyno however I don't want to waste that much time and money just to prove what's already been proven. If I did perform the test I'd cut the runs in half or possibly 60% which will hurt the statistical power but should still show reliable results.
Plus this is all predicated on having a tune vs. no tune on stock and aftermarket. I could just do no-tune and cut the runs by 50% right off the bat and still have a high statistical power.
