Size and Weight - still deal breakers?

Car looks awesome, just confused why this car is so big. I was expecting something sleeker, but I guess the only Mustang I've spent time in was a 1970.

Me too, I'm not looking for a DD. I was thinking at least a 400 lb. weight loss and maybe a foot shorter and a touch narrower.

Guess 3300 was too hopeful.... Would've put it near C7 territory in GT form. But edmunds has the GT estimated at 3700. Ouch.... That might be a deal breaker if true. Still going to be researching other options: next sti, BMW x35i (new and used), brz sti if it happens, etc

My guess is they took out enough to help offset the weight of the IRS, with the net being the same or a little more than the current 3600lbs of the GT. I wouldn't be surprised to see 3700lbs, but I was definitely leery of the early guess of 400lbs. That wheelbase would have need to shrink by a noticable amount, which definitely would have affected interior packaging and handling.

Ford has said they set extremely aggressive weight goals and they have matched them. I can't see adding weight as an "aggressive" weight goal. I think the rumors of 200 lbs across the board are true.

What I'm really excited about is it seems Ford has given this chassis a 50:50 weight balance. Aluminum hood and front fenders

How is it so big overall?
I have an E39 BMW, has a V8 4.4L engine in it and seats 5, 4 very comfortably and is only .6 inches longer. Then the trunk has plenty of room. Where is all this space going? Huge trunk? Giant engine bay doesn't make sense, E39 M5 has 4.9L engine. I don't get how this car is so long but doesn't have much rear passenger space.

I'm also confused why the car is so wide? Over 74 inches wide?? Maybe good for track but it makes parking anywhere annoying and you get more door dings. Also not as easy to fit tight spaces. Can't believe this car is wider than my '13 Fusion? This thing is like a boat width to me. Then they seem to put the gas pedal near the center console so your leg rubs the console but your left leg has like 6 inches from the door.

ha, have you driven a 6 series it is even bigger than the mustang with a smaller interior almost no rear leg space. its all about efficient packaging vs style...

I was on the scales this morning and I have achieved my weight target as well

Not a deal breaker. My issue was overall bulk. Look at the pics of the S550 and S197 side by side comparison (another thread) and I think they achieved this without having to take down wheelbase etc. Any smaller in length and it would begin to look like BRZ size and that is NOT what I want.

The weight is a little disappointing if it doesn't turn out to be a little lighter. All those rumors really got my hopes up on that but it's no deal breaker. The other improvements should more than make up for it.

Fingers crossed on at least 200lbs across all model range... My guess is EB will b lightest and GT same as 2014

I don't think weight is a deal breaker for me. However, how it feels in the turns definitely is. I don't expect it be like a Miata or BRZ, but if it doesn't feel noticeably better than the outgoing model then that may be a deal breaker. The weight may or may not be a major indicator. I still have a lot of hope for improved handling with the new suspension set up, but some weight loss wouldn't hurt.

My guess is they are still working on getting it down and trying to balance between having decent #'s at launch and leaving something on the table for the refresh to respond to the Alpha Camaro. Although, they have been seriously avoiding the C-word. The official statements could mean anything. The GT could loose 200lbs or gain 100lbs.
I would be very happy with 200lbs, but it really comes down to how the car feels. I've accepted the fact that I will be getting the GT as a nasty optioned our Gand Touring type of car and not sweating the weight so much since we learned the Edmunds rumors were BS. Worrying a lot about weight is what my 2000lb, 300hp V6 stripped down fastback miata project is for ;)

Still…. 200lbs please!

No, in all honesty I am completely fine with the length, width, height of the car. I drove a BRZ (Toyota GT86) around the Nordshcleife (20K Nurburgring track) when I was in Germany in August and I felt that the car seemed cheap and tiny. While I would not complain if my Shelby weighed a couple hundred pounds less, I would not want to make the trade for a smaller car (I felt the SN95 and Fox bodied cars were too small).
Just my opinion, but nothing on the s550 is a deal breaker ( though to be honest, if there is not a new Cobra/Shelby in 2018-19 when I am ready to buy another Halo car, it will be a Z06)

Heh, if I decided I didn't like the S550 I was going to get a c6 z06. I'm a Ford guy, but man you just can't beat them for the $.

Sure, I'm talking about driver legroom though. Fusion console is close in relation to gas pedal, then left leg is miles from the door--car drives like a big car but isn't quite as comfortable as it could be. I'm worried they'll do the same here.

Still baffled what they are doing with all this space. Bigger overall than E39 M5 but is a 2+2?

Just an FYI for those that are worried it would become a BRZ looking or sized car -- the BRZ is 22 inches(almost 2 feet) shorter, 5 inches lower, 4 inches narrower, and 800lbs. lighter than the current Mustang, with almost the exact same size interior oddly enough. There is a lot Ford could have trimmed before getting in that territory.
