The picture is self-explanatory, it's a pimple above the 5.0 emblem on the fender and it's unsightly. The bump is not indented but literally raised like a pimple.
It's perfectly spherical and "looks" like it was pushed out from the inside, but I'm pretty sure there's nothing underneath that would cause this.
Anyone else ever see this before or know what could have caused this? I'm pretty stumped and don't want it to get worse. If it's a known thing I'd like to prevent more pimples.

Maybe it’s just the angle of the photo, but that looks like a paint inclusion that someone has flatted back going through the clear and the colour ?

the picture doesn't show it fully raised, but that circle is a pimple, it's completely raised and above the flat plane of the fender. no clue where it came from, I just recently noticed it after a car wash. Checked behind the emblem area in the fender and obviously there's nothing there that is up against the inside or pushing on it.

Yeah it kinda looks like a perforation, not unheard of with these aluminum fenders.

Here's a better look at it, it's solid and has no give or budge when I try to push or break off the "pimple".
It doesn't necessarily "feel" like a rust/corrosion bubble as I've been told those would easily flake off if I tried to. The circular bubble is hard and smooth, no cracks in the clear coat or paint, and has no budge. I've never had experience with rust/corrosion bubbling so I don't know if this is just a paint defect (overspray, paint blob??) or if it's signs of rust/corrosion starting.

Perforation? Can you elaborate? Is that just a paint defect that I can just live with or something more serious I need to have the dealership fix? If it's just a small paint defect I'd move on and live with it, the bubble is very small.

There must be another s550 owner out there who has an identical paint blemish that looks like this small pimple. I have no way to tell if it's an overspray paint/clear coat imperfection from the factory or if it's the beginning signs of corrosion. Even if I was to take this to the dealership how would they determine it as corrosion related or not?

You need to look at the backside of the panel. A cheap inspection camera will be useful here.

Got it, what exactly am I looking for? What are the signs?

Did you ever figure this out?

I have a similar bump on my passenger door. Maybe 1/4 of an inch wide and 1/8 of an inch as a bump. Perfectly smooth. No bump or damage on opposite side. Smooth and hard dump - no give to it. See pictures below:

The above paint issue is definitely a defect coming from below the surface.

Paint Warranty is 5/60, and that type of defect might be covered.

Attached is Ford Warrantable vs Non-Warrantable paint guide. The Ford paint is covered under the 5/60 Paint And Corrosion Warranty outlined in your Mustang Owner's Manual. It does not protect against damages such as rock chips or other, only workmanship and corrosion.

Based on that guide, the OP's and my issues look like paint popping. Would you agree with that assessment? Would paint pops stay the same? Or get worse over time?

*if it was corrosion I know it will grow and get worse.. I will be keeping an eye on it just in case for now.

To me that looks like popping, similar to the examples in the TSB provided by CJ. I don’t know if popping necessarily spreads like corrosion, but I guess it’s possible it could pop up in other places.

I hope that's what the issue is. I am not too too worried about it - because it is very hard to see even when looking for it - but still worried enough to ask about it šŸ˜…
