I have a 2016 magnetic GT. The love the color as it tends to have a nice morphing ability to have different shades to it. I hadn't caught this defect before in the paint because of it, but it looks like there are 3/4 little fingers on the trunk lid. It's as if someone touched the lid before the paint was cured. It's not noticeable at all angles, but I caught it one day in the sun and of course now it bugs me.

Anyone have any experience with something like this and getting Ford to correct it? Car has 8000 miles on it and haven't had it a year yet.

I tried to get some pics but it doesn't come across very well.

can you determine if the prints are in the color coat or clear coat? If clear coat try polishing them out.

Perhaps it's been touched by greasy (something like sun cream?) fingers? That can be a nightmare to remove......although a detailer would be able to cut it back with a DA.

No, it's definitely in the color coat. You can see the metallic part is distorted and it looks exactly as I've said; like 3/4 four fingers touched it. The clear coat is silky smooth over the top of it. This wasn't something done since I've had the car. There wouldn't be any way to polish it out.

I have a magnetic as well and i found an imperfection in the paint on the back fender. I went to the ford dealership to see what they can do , they told me that the panel has to be painted over but they dont recommend it because they don't bake paint at the same high temperature the manufacturer uses. They asked me if i wanted to put a claim in to ford I told them no not yet. They also said I have 5 years warranty that i could come back anytime and put the claim thru. Im affraid the color will not match and the paint will be easily scratched .

That's a concern with the matching. They would likely just repaint the trunk lid for continuity, but you never know if it will look right from the fenders and over.

I may swing in just to get it in the books and see what they say.

my 04 CO Mach1 had a hand print in the paint (hood), took it to the dealer and had them repaint it, no problems with the new paint

Yes! I had what looked like a thumb print on my front fascia on the very top. You had to catch it in the right light but it really bugged me. Compounding had no effect. I had a hard time getting local dealer to do the warranty work. The dealer had a body shop on site, whom I was having paint a spoiler for me.

Service manager basically didn't want to do it. Body shop manager was like oh yeah defiantly ford should take care of it. Service manager wouldn't take or return my calls so the body shop manager spoke with him for me.

They ended up taking care of it for me. I was pretty persistent with them because obviously it was free, but mostly because they were one of the few shops in town that used water based paint, PPG to boot.

You need to stick with water based paint for the best match and compatibility for repairs. Unless you're painting an entire piece.
