Hey all, I'm planning on supercharging my car in the semi near future. Leaning towards the 727hp Roush Phase 2 kit. Seems to come out to ~630RWHP which is right about what I want to shoot for. For context, this will be my daily driver. It won't see the drag strip. It won't see a track at all really. Not to say that I baby my car, but the hardest it will really be driven will be highway pulls and the occasional launch if I'm first at a red light or something. I drove Tail of the Dragon last year which was a blast, but something like that will be few and far between.

I'm mainly curious about any supporting mods that need to go with it. From some research I've done, I see a lot of people doing OPG (oil pump gear, I think?). Is that really necessary? It seems like just as many people aren't doing it. I guess it just serves as "insurance" so to speak? What does it even do /why would it need to be upgraded? Admittedly, I'm pretty ignorant to the mechanical side of things.

Additionally, I see people people upgrading stuff like half shafts. If I'm not running super sticky tires like drag radials or slicks, is that something I really need to be concerned about? I have Nitto NT555 G2s right now and I'm pretty happy with them. I will eventually swap out my PP wheels for something larger so I can fit a 305 in the back. Is that too much power/tire for the stock half shafts, or can I leave that one alone?

Lastly, I see people talking about upgrading their clutch. I figure I'll just go with the stock clutch until it gives out then worry about replacing that with something more stout down the line.

Other than what I've mentioned (opg, half shafts, wheels/tires, clutch) are there any other recommended or mandatory supporting mods that I'm unaware of? I see dealers selling these Roush kits right out of the showroom, on base model GTs no less. Is it wrong of me to assume that these kits are more or less good to go without much additional work?

Also, my car is a performance pack car, so I'm assuming the Brembo brakes will be sufficient for the increase in power. Correct me if I'm wrong. Sorry that I'm kind of all over the place. Just trying to cover all my bases so I can figure out what I need to get right away, get later on down the line, or what I might not necessarily need at all. I appreciate any help that y'all can give me. Thanks!

Well
My car is slightly different since it has ported heads but even when I was on the base 727 package my stock tires where ice skates
I have some 305/35/19 g2/555 buttons about to go on it but until then I drive like a grandma
I have opg and tg upgrades along with a car back that suits my needs

with a PD blower you don't really need to do OPG/CG because the blower doesn't offset the crank pulley like a centrifugal blower does. OPG/CG only seem to fail on blower cars, cars using 2 step, and cars bouncing off limiter. If you don't plan on doing these things you'll be fine.

Half shafts break on stick cars pretty commonly especially at the track with drag radials or slicks on. If you don't plan on launching the car very hard on a sticky surface with sticky tires your half shafts will be fine.

Id recommend doing thermostat to help the car run a little cooler. You can also do headers to help the blower with heat and overall breathing of the motor.

That doesn't sound right. There's a few guys I've seen on the forum with Whipples that have lost the stock OPG.

Seems like a good idea to replace them regardless of which supercharger just for peace of mind, but to each their own.

Are you doing the roush to keep your warranty? If so, the OPG/CG swap will void it. Just FYI

Is there a warranty with the Phase 2 version?

If so, yeah OPG/CS may not be a good idea.

I have been told by a couple different dealerships that for an extra 1k you can purchase the warranty thru roush (covers up to 10k worth of damage)regardless of stage 1 or 2 (correct me if I'm wrong here)but that the OPG/CS will definitely void the warranty. But the dealerships/salesman (in my opinion) tell you whatever they think will sell the product. And most I've talked with don't know shit from apple butter. But that's what I've been told. I'm going a different route with my setup personally and the hell with the warranty.

No, there's no warranty option with phase 2. Only phase 1. My warranty will have likely expired by the time I get this done, or will expire shortly thereafter. Warranty isn't a concern, the Roush just seems appropriate given what I'm looking to get out of the car. Admittedly, I haven't looked into the other options that much. I know a lot of people talk about Whipple as being "better". And I know I don't want a centrifugal supercharger. But otherwise I'm open to suggestion.

Given how you drive the car, I would say get the ROUSH and you will be good.
The percentage of OPG failures is low and you don't drag the car so shafts should be good.

I plan on a Procharger and will do the same. Just a sugestion :)

*Edit* -
I would go for a Whipple or Procharger IF it was my car

I don't like the idea of a procharger just due to how the power comes on. Why do you suggest Whipple over Roush? I see a fair amount of people suggest Whipple. I don't want to get too crazy with power, so if the potential for more power is the only real benefit of the Whipple, that doesn't really blow me away, you know?

From what I've seen on some dyno sheets the phase 2 Roush comes out to about 630whp which is about perfect for me. I just want 600+ whp to be honest.

I went with the stage 2 vmp kit and the only supporting mods I did were opg and cs. I wanted to do the blower first then build around it. It most certainly needs some suspension and tires bad! Spinning at 60 is hair raising!

If you're planning to go Roush, I'd highly suggest looking into the VMP Stage II kit. It's all based around the Roush kit with noticeable upgrades: a better blower case, a vastly improved heat exchanger with fans and you get the benefit of getting the tune dialed in for your car vice being stuck with sending your PCM to Roush.

Haha, you and I are in the exact same boat. I like to buy the most expensive mod first so it seems like less time between upgrades later.

i have the roush phase 1 kit. you will have traction problems in 1st and 2nd no matter what unless you run drag radials. im on 305/35 NT05 (non R) and they spin 2nd anything over half throttle. if you have the money you can do the OPG/CG(i would also do ATI damper if doing that) but they are not necessary. like others ahve said half shafts are only needed if launching.. being no warranty (agreeing with others) i would go with VMP as its basically an upgraded roush blower for the same price. their cooling system is also better. you can call them up and tell them your goal and they will get you setup

What makes you say OPG/CG (what's CG?) not necessary? From what I can tell, it seems as if it's just "insurance" so to speak, and even then it's only at risk if you rev past 7500? Are people getting their rev limiters raised via tune when they get their blowers installed?

I'm not opposed to paying a little bit extra for peace of mind, but at the same time I'm not trying to spend any more than I really have to, you know?
