I have tried X pipes on both my 2018 GT and this car, and did not like the sound of it at all. But I also don’t like raspiness and wanted to try to tone down the harshness of the H pipe. I would always rather have it a little bit to tame than a little bit too harsh. Love the way it sounds, do not plan on changing it.
I’d love to hear what this sounds like though! I’m sorta in the same boat as you. Most sound too harsh to me wide open, but much improved down low.

@Mikepol2 Are you driving around in Track mode with it or it would be too much? I'm pretty much always putting it to Track mode, even more so when we have it more quieter with GPF filter in EU. Maybe in a year or two SWMBO will allow me Kooks headers to unleash the sound and power 😁

Usually I'm in track or sport+. There are times I wish it was a LITTLE louder but then I think no, then normal would be unbearable. Most mornings on the way to work I'm not in the mood to have my ears blasted and use quiet or normal.

It was the X pipe. It wasn't just a one test thing. This was over several months. After I switched to the H it averaged .2 better over several months.

It was probably the design and I dont want to spend 300 plus for 50 in tubing to try another design.

One like this is what I tried.

https://www.amazon.com/KARCK-Exhaust-Outlet-Crossover-Stainless/dp/B082TVK8KQ/ref=sr_1_6?crid=C9FMB6USZWZ7&keywords=3+inch+x+pipe&qid=1672683929&sprefix=3+inch+x+pipe,aps,185&sr=8-6
I’ve had several past M6G conversations discussing the CFM choke effect of true X crossovers.
True X’s might help on a wimpy Windsor 302 that runs out of air at 4800 RPMs. The Coyote on the other hand doesn't run out of air @ 110% VE.
H crossovers have no CFM losses and explains the ET difference.

I can imagine it's different for daily. I walk to my office 20 feet from my bedroom so it's a different story for me 😁

I'll revive this thread and give my thoughts.

My car came to me with the Steeda H-pipe. I never heard the car without it, but I will say liked the sound quite a bit...at first.

Some things I've noticed -

Cold startups in the garage are VERY loud. I've had to program quiet starts in the mornings for my neighbors.

Quiet mode is still very quiet, but there doesnt seem to be any noticeable difference in other exhaust modes. While inside the car Normal, sport, and track all sound about the same to me. This is disappointing.

As good as it sounds in normal mode, its a bit much in city driving. I find myself shifting early to keep the sound from being too loud. Anything over 3k is aggressively loud, especially with the windows are down. And I frequently find myself switching to quiet mode when I listen to music because the exhaust is overpowering inside the car.

I'm curious to get others thoughts on the difference in Exhaust modes with the factory resonator. With my h-pipe, I wish normal mode was quieter. Because of that I'm seriously considering finding a factory resonator and putting it back on.

Get an E85 tune, and while your at it, have your tuner modify the active exhaust valve settings. You can have them set the valve positions to whatever you want. After installing my headers, obviously it was too loud so I had Wengerd reduce the valve positions in normal and sport. He also made it so that in any mode, the valves open completely under WOT.

Since this thread has been resurrected I have a question: what is the weight savings going from stock resonator to res delete with an X or H pipe?

Not sure, but the stock resonator is quite heavy. Id imagine it probably saves 20ish pounds or more.

I’ve looked around a bit since I posted this and it seems the weight savings is around 5 pounds. And it also seems there is no performance increase and in fact in some cases a slight decrease. If you already have AE that’s loud in track mode I’m kinda wondering why do it?

Ive certainly not seen anything about a performance decrease. Most peope say the low end trottle feels less sluggish and more snappy. For what its worth, Steeda says it's good for a whole 2 hp.

As for why do it...It's a fare question. I'm not sure I would have done it myself had the car not come with it. But im also not a loud exhaust guy, so take that for what you will.

I will say that from a pure sound standpoint, the car sounds amazing. The tone is hands down the best sounding system I've ever owned. Even my wife likes it, which is saying something.

I cheated…. I had the tiny GT350 resonators removed and had straight pipe of equivalent diameter welded in… I now have the OEM GT350R exhaust. It sounds like Chewbacca gargling while singing with the Ford Philharmonic 32 Valve Orchestra at a 8250 rpm wail.

How stupidly poetic…!!!

I keep meaning to ask (actually I may already have asked and forgotten) but is your car Ford Performance blue? Looks like it from the avatar. Freaking love that color.
