Guys... we have to figure out these Engine Oil Consumption Issues.... we have to get from 1 qt every 500 miles to 1 qt every 5000 miles...
FAILURE IS NOT AN OPTION!......

Serious amount of views and concern for a failure rate of around 0.10% of a mass produced vehicle... As side from what others have pointed out, R models might not be affected as badly due to have slight different motors. R-model Voodoo engines receive unique lash adjusters, VCT mechanisms and cam covers, and these engines carry code 151.

Curious if anyone in a base GT350 who got a new motor got an R motor by mistake? How could we tell? Where's the code located?

OE parts catalogs use VINs to determine the correct part number needed. These days for the most part, you put a VIN in the catalog and look up the engine there is only one choice.

Actually................"A little something we learned during this process is that the R-model Voodoo engines receive unique lash adjusters, VCT mechanisms and cam covers, and these engines carry code 151."

The question was asked if an R engine could be installed in a base or vice/versa. There are different part numbers for R and non R engines. In theory, the parts department would be looking up the engine by VIN so if they do their job properly the correct engine will be ordered. If you are replying to me, that's why I wrote what I wrote. Cataloging would show one part number as it would filter out the one that didn't apply. I'm not commenting on if there is only one version of voodoo. As you said, its been covered.

My first GT350 had an engine go bad at 4k miles with a suspected bearing failure. Then at about 8k miles I noticed a crack on the block which looked like a casting failure but a crack none the less. I contacted Ford and had the crack verified by dealer and the determination was to replace the engine. I understand the frustration and feelings on the matter. However, I also know what my rights are and had the car bought back. I then purchased an R. I have over 12k miles, street and tracked about 60/40. Does it consume oil? Yes. After all it is a large displacement 8k RPM engine with low tension rings. How much oil? I don't know as I don't really keep track. I add when it needs it and always have about 11qts. I drive the car hard when she hits the streets, back roads, high rpm, down shifts etc. It is a car. A man made machine. I work in the aerospace industry and believe me I see failures and deficiencies that would make you poop your pants. I don't make of it more than it is. It breaks, gets fixed and do it again.
So are you on your third engine? Did I read that right?

Clearly, different failures, but sux either way.

Nooooooo! Would have been on 3rd engine if II accepte the warranty repair. One was enough. 2 shame on me Had it bought back. Now on the R I will do whatever it takes to buy back engine (if fails) and would accept warranty repairs.

Back with new motor. So looking at it and the paperwork, it looks like they replaced the motor but used the same manifold, etc. Gaskets, nuts, studs, bolts, V belt and wire assembly were replaced. Even has the same "built by x and y" block. Feels a little peppier but probably just my imagination and not driving it for 2 weeks. Hopefully she doesn't drink oil this time

Same with mine. We got a long block, that’s the block with heads and water pump. The intake and exhaust from the oil burner gets switched to the new long block. Koons in Va did a great job. No scratches anyplace and no fluids spilled or pooled. They forgot to move the clamp up on the coolant overflow reservoir is all I found they missed. But your right the new motor feels s but smoother and peppier

Did your cars have a leak-down/compression check performed?

Yes, as I said in other thread....compression test, leak down test, dye markers, and cylinder bores looked at with camera. All passed in spec.
