I would suggest also adding an "Other" category for those failure that were not fully diagnosed.

HB take a look at the poll. I think you and one more are the only two I know off with valve train failures.
HB is one of the few who knows they had a valve train failure, but if a bigger broken spring chunk had gone into the pump, he'd have reported "yet another OPG failure". My suspicion is that a lot of the OPG failures actually started with something else failing.

I am not aware of (if) any failure blamed solely on the OPG. The other guy I know had a valve keeper fail and his OPG took some damage.

So, with all due respect: this thread has had 93,000 views, 1,500 replies but only 8 people who actually voted and reported issues. If this is indicative of a huge problem, im not seeing it.

This thread just got modified the last day to a new title to better reflect reality plus a poll added so give it some time to populate. Perhaps the mods could sticky this so it stays on top?

Thanks Rick!
Stang 19, Mike if you were to read through the 1500 posts you would see there is a variety of reasons why engines where replaced. Someone started a spread sheet but to keep it simple and within the thread, the title was change as noted by Rick and a poll was added.
I hope that this is made a sticky and that those that have had failures place a vote.

I would also be interested to see if there is a correlation between manufacture month and year..

And engine builders ;-)
From the information in this thread, over 1500 posts, engine builders and year build has absolutely no relevance to why an engine was replaced. I recommend you read through and come to that conclusion yourself. The OP's intention was to be informative. Most engines in this forum and other forums to include FB seem to be due to oil consumption. To me that speaks volumes.

Sad to join the club. Add me to the replacement engine group :(. 9700 miles and a rod knock. The wait begins.
