An update from me, the dealer (Star Ford) sat on the car for 2 weeks before even getting around to it but finally had the prognosis completed and Ford is putting a new engine in mine, 2018 with 7k miles.

Also had no loaner car until they got an approval from Ford...I would expect better treatment for a $60k car but at least they aren't Galpin Ford who tried to claim I had an "aftermarket" oil filter housing on my car that was leaking and it would cost $500 to fix it a few months back...

I also know of one person with a 2018 that blew two weeks ago with 4.8k miles, he heard it was updated bearings that are causing the issue.

Anyway, love the car but not the most fun experience!

What's your build or manufacture date?
Can find out when I have the car back, not sure off the top of my head.

Sorry you are going through this experience. I had sincerely hoped Ford would've improved the motors by 2018, but it appears not to be the case.

That's bizarre. Were you able to prove them wrong?
Appreciate the words, like I said- absolutely love the car but just been a somewhat rocky road so far and the Ford dealers I have tried haven't made it better other than the one I bought it from in TX, nice people.

And for Galpin, they were claiming the car was undrivable and spilling oil everywhere along with an aftermarket oil canister (wtf)...so slightly worried but still suspicious as it was fine before I brought it in, I had my buddy's garage tow it out from them to inspect it. Of course they get it and everything is perfect, just some residue from an earlier oil change. Asking around in the car world locally here it seems like that practice is not uncommon there.

Man what a nightmare, sorry you got to go through it. Do you have another toy that will get you by in the meantime?

I understand why, but it is a shame ford isn't more forthcoming about this issue. I don't know if I have two of the greatest mustangs ever built or ticking time bombs.
Two bombs that are going to blow up in your face, Tommy

A Fiesta ST...and the Fusion Hybrid from Enterprise :D

At least u got a loaner, my dealer told me they don't have any and wont have any for a longtime. Seems like every time my car goes into the shop I never get a loaner. So far 1 year of ownership its been in the shop for about 2 months total for 3 separate incidents.

On a side note did any one feel their car was was different after coming back from a new engine? I feel like my car hesitates now sometimes. I press the accelerator the engine revs a little then the car kind of jerks forward. I can not duplicate this all the time but its definitely not the same.

I got my car in November. I'd say it has nearly been back at the dealer more time than I have actually driven it. The loaner is the very least they should be doing. I'm currently working the GM of the dealership I bought from to do something to make it right, because it isn't. They made a bunch of money on 3 warranty claims. They better do something to make it right above and beyond, as I am currently not whole as a customer...Nevermind the engine no longer matches the chassis.:paddle:

I'm reading and I don't really see it... Is there evidence/documentation that there is a flaw and more so, that there was a supposed fix for 18? - Or are some people pulling this from their asses? This seems like the same conjecture where people are sure it's the OPG (if it's even a single item) that is causing failures.

I joined this forum specifically to learn about this issue after a friend lost the motor in his ‘18. I was thinking about getting one, but have held off hoping that Ford would step up and acknowledge the problem and put the fix in place. It doesn’t look like that is going to happen, at least not publicly. As a potential buyer, I have lost confidence in the product. Whether the failure rate is 3% or 8%, it is clearly well outside what I would consider to be normal.

I doubt it costs Ford the $35K that has been mentioned, but it is certainly not a cost that they can afford to absorb for long given the apparent failure rate. Nor can they afford the damage to customer loyalty that results when it takes two months to complete repairs. My friend traded his car the day after he got it back.

I like the idea of a spreadsheet to see if the failures are specific to a range of build dates. Somebody on Rennlist did one to track 3rd gear failures on Porsche GT4s. That problem was subsequently identified and fixed, but Porsche replaced a lot of transaxles before the fix was implemented.

I've created a spreadsheet of engine failures based on member feedback in this post.

Anyone interested in obtaining a copy just send me a message with your email address so I can attach the file

How about make it a public google sheet so everyone can view (but not modify)

I had a '16 w/ 3K miles pop on me. Took some arm wrestling to get Ford to buy it back and get me a '17. had I waited 6-7 months to get the '17 as my '16 popped in August. After the '16 popped on me I never had confidence that the '17 wouldn't do the same. In addition to this the fit/finish wasn't so good on either car. Rattles, thin and flawed paint, saggy rear bumper etc so I sold it. Performance was great but I just wasn't satisfied with the rest of the car. Ford makes great trucks and I have zero complaints about my Raptor but these new S550's are made pretty cheaply. So back to Porsche I go ordering my 5th 911.
good choice. Buy quality made in Germany

Great idea! For those that have PMd me, please wait until I share it through Google. Probably tomorrow.

Too bad uninformed buyers of the GT350 can't be pre-equipped with the data. I'd love a would-be buyer to walk in and make a dealership assure him that the engine has been improved from the run of engines that blow up all the time...."Sir, can you assure me this engine has improvements that will eliminate the well-documented pattern of engine failures?"...That should help kill an ADM.
