There are 2 lessons that everyone should learn from this:

1) Get a radar detector. I use a Uniden R7 and it's freaking brilliant! It has saved my butt so many times, it has paid for itself 10 times over. My other Mustang is a 2013 Shelby GT500 with > 700rwhp and it idles at 80mph! I live in the south and cops love to hide around corners with their radar guns blaring. I know that they are there way before they know that I am.

2) Never EVER go to court without a lawyer. The lawyer will get your ticket reduced or dismissed. The latter happens when the officer fails to appear in court, since we, by law, have a right to face our accuser.

I learned my lesson in 1995 when I got a ticket for having an expired insurance card. I went to court, presented the insurance card that showed that I had insurance the whole time, but instead of dismissing the charge like the judge should have, he fined me $1 + court costs. I thought "No big deal" and went home. I got a letter from the state a few weeks later that said that I now had to carry 3 YEARS of high risk car insurance because I was found guilty of not having insurance! That bad decision cost me thousands of dollars over the 3 year period. Hiring a lawyer to represent you in court usually costs around $75.

Never, ever, ever, NEVER go to court without a lawyer.

Agree with both, will be getting a uniden r3 since it's so cheap. But the cop hit me with lidar so wouldn't have helped anyways I think. Also where did you find a lawyer for 75 bucks lol, mine was 1000

Only an absolute idiot would think the police would just say, “Okay guys, he ran away from us Let’s go home now“.

Assuming they got your plate, they just wait for you at your domicile when you casually stroll back into your neighborhood. Those plate cameras are pretty damn sharp.

When getting cited for speed using a police radar the first question for the cop should be, let me see your log where you tested the radar calibration before going on shift. They should also check the calibration when going off shift. (If they wrote speeding tickets)

Unfortunately in most states it is not a law to have the radar calibrated. Calibration is done by the manufacturer and by the individual law enforcement precinct. In fact most judges do not throw out a case if it hasn't been calibrated in a while, especially with how good the radars are nowadays. The only real shot you have of that working is if the speed they cited you at is extremely close to the speed limit, 2-4mph.

Yeah even a 10pct error isn't going to matter. You got caught, take your lumps. You earned them.

I’ve had a Uniden R7 since I bought my mustang and at the time, I was working in NJ. The police in NJ love to sit in the trees, lights off just waiting for you to go a little faster than the speed limit on empty highways(I worked nightshift so my commute home was always empty). The R7 combined with Waze was the greatest thing I’ve purchased lol.

Where I live anything more than 50 km/h (30 mph) over the speed limit is considered racing and it is an automatic 2 week impound of the car on the side of the road and 30 day license suspension. The fines can go up to $10k as well. So I am very select about where I give the GT a romp typically a back road where I can see for a good distance before hopping on the go pedal.

So the price to be paid is very severe and every week kids are seeing their Mom's cars on flat beds.

And I design radar systems for autonomous racecars... There's no need to throw resumes around. The fact is it is not a law requiring them to calibrate the radar after every shift. What they do is have an accuracy check with tuning forks before and after their shift. Very very different from calibrating. If they find the radar is badly off they won't use that radar gun and grab another one.

I never disputed that statement as I don’t know the answer.

I got one for 120 in a 65. Sort of embarrassing to go before the judge and try to explain. I was lucky not to get a reckless driving as well and go to jail but this was during COVID so no one was going for misdemeanors. I was happy to walk away with a $300 fine and some online driver courses. Most of us who have owned muscle/sports cars have gone over the limit at some point. Sometimes the want takes over the prudence. At the end of the day let's be careful out there.
