Great info here. I have the same issue, as well as a surging HVAC system, when temp is trying hold. So at low volume of air I get a whooshing sound on passanger side, so combined with the Noise described on this thread I have an orchestra of noises...add in the
Bouncy ride, and boy what a car!

I have the same problem with passenger side rear. Developed at around 2000 miles and 5 months of ownership. If I go back there and thump on the upper corner of the rear glass on the passenger side it makes a very similar sound. Perhaps that is a good way to demonstrate it to the dealer.

Yesterday, I found that a loosely dangling front passenger seat belt buckle blowing in the wind can hit the right passenger panels with a god-awful noise. The side panels seem to amplify any sound that occurs there.

Hi, did you happen to take a couple of pictures when the panel was off?
After about two weeks the rear passenger side rattle returned. So today I disassembled everything and went hunting for the "new" source...and took the opportunity to shoot some pics. When I reassembled the panel last time both of the white plastic pins were tight. However, today one of them was very loose.

The videos below are before and after the electrical tape preload treatment.

Before

After

The first pic shows the rear interior of the mustang with the side panel removed - red arrows indicate holes where the panel's white pins are inserted. The inset pic on the left shows electrical tape application around the hole to prevent plastic on metal contact.

The second pic is the inside of the side panel with the hard foam bits in place (for reference; I removed mine).

The third pic shows how I cut the electrical tape pieces to preload the white push pins (the bottom of the U is inserted into the mount first, otherwise fitting the pin in the mount strips the tape off).

The fourth shows the pin being inserted back into the side panel mount point.

The fifth pic shows the completed side panel interior with both pins preloaded with electrical tape.

I wonder what those sealer strips on the metal are.

So when the panel is in place, does the foam part contact those sealer strips? Or another idea.... maybe the wiring harness, which is wrapped in tape, is contacting the plastic? Although my noise sounds like its coming from higher up on the panel.

Perhaps one way to find it is to ride in the back while someone else drives over the same roads that cause the noise and apply hand pressure to the panel at various points till you find the one point that makes the noise go away.

The rattle is gone, again. Remains to be seen whether my work is palliative or curative, LOL.

I should also report that I applied three or four pieces cut from camper rubber strip to the bottom of the plastic trim that surrounds the rear window. I could detect vibration from that area by moving it with my hand. Also put some electrical tape on the plastic piece that holds the seat belt into the side panel. The two plastic parts do rattle if tapped.

Freeway commute was solid and quiet both directions today. If the rattle returns and I can identify another source, I'll report back.

Appears to be some kind of silicone, but firm, cured. I believe it corresponds to the foam bits. Personally, the foam bits have too many potential noise issues to be worthwhile to put back - front side, back side, plastic posts they mount to, lateral play, etc. The electrical is all solid and doesn't rattle. I did put some adhesive foam strips over some parts, but it was just insurance.

Another thing that came to mind is a lot of people are reporting this on the right side, while the left side is quiet (mine included). So although the interior quarter panels are the same there's got to be some difference between the sides. For example, I wonder if the left side has the same foam block, or if there's an electrical harness running down that side. Something must be different.

Can someone tell me if what you're describing is the same sound I hear? My sound definitely comes from the right side of the car and to me it sounds almost like sand or leaves being trapped in an area and then just swirling around in that area. Does that sound like this issue or something else?

Mine sounded pretty close to what is in the videos I posted. Definitely more of a rattle. However, perception of sounds is subjective, so written descriptions may not really help.

I'm on day 2 following my second attempt at mitigating the noise. So far, so good.

Usually when im on the interstate. To me it doesn't sound like metal. It really sounds like leaves trapped in a small area getting blown around.

Now that i've watched imaginager's video, it sounds a lot like that minus the squeakiness.
