O.B.I: Obvious By Inspection.
That equation can be simplified in your head... showing “work” for the intuitive is superfluous.
to a 8 yr old? Who would be doing the math in their head in narrative fashion?

Confused... are you saying that simplifying that equation in your head is difficult or easy?

it would not occur to the target audience (2-4th graders) to listen to the entire narrative, construct an equation and reduce it, to realize the answer would always be N/2. I'll bet you plenty of people on this forum reading that post would have worked the narrative out one step at a time, and would take a few moments to realize the equation always reduced to N/2.

Impromptu vote:
up-vote = it was bloody obvious you twit

wow = oh, so THAT's how it works / kids wouldn't/unlikely have figured it out

sad-face = maff be hard, I'm an English/History/Arts major damn it. I use a graphing calculator for a reason.

Today I was at the grocery. Leaving my food buggy to find an item. I found my item and placed into the buggy, proceeded two aisle over.

Then I notice the buggy was not my buggy.

Random thought: should I tell the person who has my food buggy I want it back, or slowly walk away and start over?

the universe has an infinite number of idiots who are quite adroit and skilled at breaking things - esp. software. Or put another way, programmers are pathologically incapable of understanding that users NEVER do what you think they should do. You must treat them as the enemy.
yes, your ingenious design that is idiot-proof is just waiting for the next ingenious idiot to prove you wrong

A woman in a bikini reveals about 90% of her body… And yet most men are so polite they only look at the covered parts

The Wikipedia page for uranium says that it has a metallic taste. Someone probably died getting that information.

Fun fact: The metal Potassium does NOT have a metallic taste (because your taste buds were burned to a crisp before they could react). As a lab assistant, I loved dropping pieces of Potassium in people's soda cans when they weren't looking to see their reaction to the flames.
