I live in Portland, OR and it basically rains all the damn time, i have the Ecoboost with the performance package and these summer tires are awesome in the summer but when it rains all the damn time i feel the need to baby the gas more than i would if i didnt have summer tires. Can anyone tell me if there is a badass tire just for rainy conditions, or maybe i should consider swapping out my PP summer tires for all season ones in the winter? Also there's usually about a 30-40% chance of snow in the winters here, but again CONSTANT rain and black ice.

Thanks!

If temperatures drop below 45 F, winter tires are recommended. Summer tires are useless even in the dry under that temperature. I will be DDing mine when it arrives, so I got winter tires just in case. We have the same snow chance in the DC area. I don't know how good the A/S will drive in case it snows. I am sure some other people can tell their experiences with all seasons.

A winter tire will be far superior to an all season in cold dry, cold wet, icy and snowy conditions.

I find good summer tires absolutely best in rain as long as it is relatively warm (Michelin PSS, Bridgestone S-04). When it gets cold - winters. Ice - can't do anything about it...

Continental DWS or DWS06(The new version). Ultra high performance all season tires that maintains good grip in the wet, even when cold, and even does respectably in snow too for not being a dedicated snow/winter tire. Also does well in the summer too. Pretty much a jack of all trades. No tire will be best in all seasons but this does the job respectably-to-great in all conditions, relatively speaking.

Also, a reasonably priced tire and as an added bonus they are fairly lightweight.

For snow and ice and consistently cold temperatures you can't beat a winter tire. That said, I'm also in the PNW and I know we get far more days that are wet in the 40s than we have days that are snowy or in the 20s. Hell, earlier this week we had both overnight lows in the 20s and daytime highs in the mid 50s with dry roads. I'm not so sure I'd want to be on winter tires on warm dry roads, especially if I want to drive in a spirited fashion. If you've got another car you can drive it it snows I'd say for the PNW a good all season like the DWS06 is a great choice for the types of winters we see here. If you are really worried about driving in snow then get winter tires and just take it easy on those relatively warm days we have frequently during winter.

Hey fellow PNWers that may not need winter tires...look at Cooper's Zeon RS3-A tire from Discount Tire. I put them on my GT PP and they seem to be in their element over here in Central Oregon with temps down into the 20s.

I don't DD the car and wouldn't attempt to commute in it during a snow storm but it can get out of its own way on packed snow and ice with these tires. Plus, they are at a great price.

Michelin as3 have been amazing in really heavy downpours for me. Not so great in the snow, but very good at everything else. i rate them higher in rain than the continental dws06

Get some good all season tire. Snow tire are pointless west of the Cascades because it snows maybe 2-3 times a year and is melted away by noon. I don't think many people realize how mild our winters are.

Just put Conti DWS06s on my car, they were excellent in the rain that came for 3 days or so.

if you are really concerned with wet and don't care much about treadwear...the hoosier radial wet h2o are insanely grippy in the wet. literally a road race rain tire. buddy of mine runs the on his terminator and loves them. ive used the bfg kdw with some good luck on my old fox body, as well as goodyear eagle f1 gs-d3 on my cobra, which were surprisingly stable when I got caught in the rain with 830rwhp.

10 years + in the PCNW. For our weather, the best choice is an all season like the AS3 or DWS06 from Oct-May and a PSS or even better RE71R Jun-Sept. You could also easily use either of the all seasons through the summer months including mild autocross and be happy, but response will not be as amazing as the summers.

Winter tires are not needed as the little snow we get will easily be handled by the DWS06 in particular. The winters also get really gummy and have poor stopping distance on the 50+ degree days.

I know a lot of folks hate all seasons, but for the mild rainy weather where we live those are the best options.

I chose to get the Michelin Premier LTX all season for my SUV over the winters a few weeks back and have had no issues in the ice and rain we had last week. Handled like a champ...
