Contemplating getting one and thought I’d see what you guys thought. I’ve never had one and wanted to know if they’re just annoying or if there are any that work well.

i have an escort i bought a few years ago and it's saved my ass tons of times. warns me when a cop is like 2 miles away sometimes. very little if any false alarms. the only complaint i have is the bluetooth function doesn't work that well (disconnects randomly), so i don't have the live speed limit showing up on mine. other than that, it's awesome. keep in mind that while you can get an early warning on radar, a laser hit will most likely be too late because as soon as it's detected that means they got a read on your speed. they don't use laser a whole lot here in california but i have seen it a few times

I've had a few over the years. Bought an Escort Max 360 when I got the Bullitt. It's a big beast, but works well. you will always get "false alerts" for non police radar, but you can add them to memory, so on regular routes, they are silenced... Like everything else, they just tell you there is a signal out there, and you have to learn and understand what information it is giving you...

I read the Escort was really good, but like anything else on the Internet, trying to get through the fake noise

After doing tons of research on the interwebz I ended up going with the Cobra dual pro 360. It has all the latest GPS features plus directional arrows which I really wanted as it helps knowing where the signal is coming from. With the GPS feature, if it sees the same X/K band 3 times(as in a false reading from a store, etc.) the unit will automatically store it and mute the signal when you approach from now on. It will show in the display, just not alarm. I really like this radar detector and got a killer deal on Ebay. I found one that had an auction with no reserve and ended up getting it for like $300. Retail I believe is $449 and higher.

I strongly recommend the Valentine One, Generation 2. I've used detectors since they first came out, and owned Valentine One's since they first came out.

I have a CDL and do what I need to do to hold onto it, so I spend what I need to on Valentine's. Recommend the remote
display, so people are not following you around because they can see your display lighting up. Also it has arrows to tell you from which direction, and can count multiple radar attacks at the same time.

That's my two cents. You can try it for 30 days and if you don't like it they will give you your money back. I'm getting ready to upgrade my two Valentine One units to the Generation 2.

Right now the Uniden R7 is the one to get. I have two of them in my vehicles. Excellent performance at a good price. The Valentine One Gen 2 and Escort Max 360c are also good choices.

I'm sure all three of those are excellent, Boss but having dumped a couple grand into the top-of-the-line models over the years and, after seeing the glowing reviews on the R3, an older model, I thought it was worth a shot and it was. I honestly don't know if the R7, V2, or 360 are better "detectors" but I can't see how they could be a better design than the R3. I love that thing and I've never said that about an RD.

And FWIW, the R7 has 223 reviews on the Big A while the R3 has 1140. Granted, the latter has been out a good bit longer but I'd say that I'm not the only one who gave it a go.

I have 2 of the "Top of the Line" Escort Max 360's. But in all honesty they are all (wait for it-LOL) a "HUGE AND TOTAL WASTE OF MONEY". Here's why, you are cruising along and enjoying the day and decide to "get on that baby a little" you are coming up onto the crest of a hill and sure enough right as you get to the top there's Old Smoky Bear with his window down and his cute little laser gun pointed right at you. GOTCHA!!!!!!!!!!! No radar detector will save you from that. Just put the $300 in the enclosed envelope and mail it in. And don't forget to be at the class tuesday nights at 7PM!!!!!!!! LOL

Chuck: Yes, Laser is pretty much impossible to defeat. Fortunately, for whatever reason, the PD down here seems to prefer, (or some traffic officers prefer,) the Ka guns.

The other thing is, you have to be smart and observant, too. I never trust the crest of a hill, for example and only get after it when I'm sure I can't see a unit anywhere and the RD is silent.
