Reading back through this whole thread, I get reminded of those sayings of how you can spend your whole life on the sidelines and have a perfectly "safe" life with very few really memorable moments, or you can take a chance now and then and do sh#t that you, and everyone around, will remember. This car, and actually driving it as God intended, is definitely one of those things. On our deathbed, none of us will be thinking, "man, I wish I had driven a car that was sensibly styled, got great mileage, and was impossible to find in a parking lot full of rental cars." At car shows, guys who drive C8 ZO6s, Ferraris, and Lambos will ask questions or make comments about the GT350. They wouldn't trade, even if you threw in a Victoria Secret model, but I still enjoy every minute of those conversations. Can reasonably conclude that I wouldn't even be there were I rocking a Prius or an older Camry.

I second this. The majority of them have been fine. Buy one and enjoy it. Anything can break. It's not like a 5.0 long block is cheap either.

If you have the means and the desire, put one in your driveway and stop worrying about things that probably will never happen.
You can find 5.0s everywhere in local junkyards, because Ford installed them into millions of pickups. They are a lot cheaper than a Voodoo. Yes you can pay for new if you just have to have that, but there are low budget options for the Coyote.

My opinion is the Voodoo is sensitive to lugging, but if the revs are kept up whenever power is needed, it will last a long time. I really loved my GT350 tech pack as a daily as well as on track once I fixed the cooling issues.

Truer words have never been spoken ! I went to a car show with a buddy last summer because he bought a new C8 Vette. A customer of mine was walking around the car show and I ended up taking him for a Spirited ride on the E-Way. Last fall he had me stop by his shop for a service call and he showed me this new to him 2019 Porsche 911 GT 3. Told me how much fun the ride was that he had with me and he always wanted one of those 911s. 72 years old, diagnosed with brain cancer just before Christmas and I was at his funeral last Monday.
We get one time around the block....Just saying 🤔

Just another data point:

I bought a new '23 Mach1 last year after deciding against the 350. I loved it, but I was rear-ended totaling the car with only 2740 miles. I took my insurance payout and bought a one-owner '20 350 with ~7k miles. I absolutely love it and I'm glad I got a do-over on my decision. That being said, it is a play car and not my daily.

I ended up with the car I dreamed about in the end. I don't care about the warranty. I will modify the car. I don't stress about it, and if it breaks I'll fix it. Its only a Ford after all.

wow, I’m glad you’re ok. Seems to be the real experience of a lot of people. Got a Mach 1 and wish I’d just got the GT350. Good on you for going for it on the do-over, and I assume you’re all ok from the wreck, so what a win on a bad situation. Thanks for sharing your experience.

I had a 2018 350 that I bought with 1,200 miles on it. Did 12 HPDE's over 3 years, zero issues. Traded it in at 7,500 miles on a 2020 GT350R with 4,900 miles. Dropped a valve on the 2020 at my second HPDE (motor replaced under 3/36 warranty and I also have the ESP through 2030).

Posting about it acknowledge another Gen2 that had an issue, whereas my Gen1 ran like a top.

To the question of warranty, I love this car and it's definitely special. But will I own it out of warranty? That's a tough decision I'll have to make in 2-3 years so I can sell it with some warranty left.

My motor let loose at Road Atlanta on the back straight. Had the "low engine oil pressure" light come on, looked at my oil pressure, was pegged at zero which wasn't good because I was going 130+.

Pulled into the pits and it sounded like a bucket a bolts. Ford tech tore it apart, oil pump gear was sheared in half (This is not uncommon for the Voodoo).

I did not treat my GT350 unlike any of my other track cars. ESP replaced the motor and I sold it, bought a Honda Civic Type R for this years track season and for our incoming first child. Is it the Shelby? No. Did I take it to Road Atlanta last Saturday and then drive it home after? Yes.

The 350 was a pain the ass but I loved it. There is nothing like the sound of that Voodoo at 8200. Nothing. It is an experience, whole car vibrates. It's so racey. It is special.

For you particular case being that this will be a DD, you DONT want to buy the warranty, you seem concerned you won't be able to enjoy it with that thought in the back of your head, etc etc - I would steer clear of the 350. Driving a car shouldn't be stressful and full of what ifs in my opinion.

I felt okay knowing I had the warranty, it wasn't my dd, and we had other cars in case it went down.

Would I do it all over again when our little one grows up? Maybe. The grabber limes do something to me......

Just curious, was it a relatively early chassis number 2020?

I have a 2019 GT350 with over 50,000 miles, and I have ZERO engine problems.

@Tomster has been very firm that there is NO Gen 1 and Gen 2 engines.
I have no first hand knowledge of any factual details on different generations of the VooDoo engines.... @Tomster may be 100% correct, but I have no idea if there are any generations of the VooDoo.

Still looking for clarification.

I think different people call the major refresh that happened in 2019 different things. Here’s what fathouse fab had to say about the “gen 2.”

I don’t understand why it’s so controversial to say “gen 2” on here - if you objectively look at how much has changed, even if just minor things in isolation, as a whole it’s a pretty decent refresh…I think we can agree that a so called “gen 2” exists while also NOT saying “gen 1s” are bad…feels like any acknowledgement on here of gen 2 is taken to mean gen 1 is inferior - i think those are different arguments. Many changes were made, so whatever you want to call it, there was a decently significant “update” for later model years that’s worth delinating.
I haven’t been around here for long, but would love to see a thread or sticky solely devoted to engine model year changes. Seen many good YouTube videos on that, but a good thread would be awesome…and hugely helpful for many here. If it’s not done soon I’ll raise my hand for it eventually, just need to get smarter on these cars before I stick my neck out too much haha

Thanks Pilotgore,
Good video, but I don't think that will convince @Tomster that there are different generations,,, maybe he will chime in.
I would honestly like to know if there really was a design change with different generations of the VooDoo.

Side Note:
Pilotgore: I am still having Ford change my oil while still under warranty... I had to switch dealers and the new dealer is really excited about using your GT350 3D printed funnel I bought from you... they were excited that this funnel existed and said they may buy one for their own use... I'll keep you posted.
Their first chance at proving themselves worthy is March 7th... I'll let you know.

Once out of warranty, I will happily change my own oil.

I don't think he gets to have an opinion since he only owns a few vehicles with the inferior gen 1 R motors instead of the clearly superior gen 2 motor. I have internal ford documents in my possession that prove my point.... alas I cant share them with anyone. You're just going to have to believe me!

Disclaimer (Because Dave didn't do one): I am posting this with heavy sarcasm. If you take this seriously or personally, please put the keyboard down and go touch grass.

I will believe anyone with proof, as opposed to "cuz I say so", but I also listen to all factual evidence that supports an argument.

Pretty simple, in 19 and 20 the 350 shared parts with the GT500. All engines, R or base were the same for the first time. It's been researched to death. There are major differences between the 18 and 19/20. Nothing wrong with the 15-18s The 19/20s were improved.
