Like the title says I got caught today in some probably 1” hail. I managed to get the car under a roof that was just a shelter for picnic tables after yanking them out. Damage would have been horrendous had I not done that.
The trunk lid got peppered pretty good as the shelter was a bit short. I have a couple small ones on the hood, same on the roof and a few on the pillars that go over the top of the side windows.
So I have a couple of questions such as does insurance normally cover hail damage and the second one is can PDR solve the dents especially in the roof and pillars?

I tried a pic of the trunk but it doesn’t show that well.

A good PDR person should know no bounds.

Insurance? What does you policy say?

Yes your insurance should cover for hail damage. I had a family member get their car damaged by it. It was during a huge storm where thousands of cars got damaged so they are still waiting for the car to get fixed due to a back log at the hail repair specialist.

Okay thank you all I felt pretty sick when it happened so it sounds like any of the wounds can be dealt with through PDR? I had a good guy but he retired a few years ago but perhaps once I talk to my insurance Monday I’ll have a better idea what’s involved to make her whole again. The worst part is the more you look the more spots you find lol.

Let it sit out in the sun and get good and hot. You might be surprised how many will pop back. I’ve seen this many times over the years.

Ok I’ll let her sit in the hot sun. Be nice if I was sitting outside and heard pop pop pop about 15 times. :)

The family Dodge mini-van got hammered by hail about 5 years ago. Smashed the windshield and made the car look like a golf ball (same storm wrecked the roof and siding in my house too).

Insurance covered the repair, but two weeks after getting the car back, it got rear-ended while my daughter was driving it and totaled (fortunately she was unharmed). I do miss having that mini-van though, it may not have been fun to drive, but it was damn useful.

Sorry to hear that but it was made whole after the hail damage? How did they fix it PDR or body work?

Body work, but it was just a crummy mini-van so we took the settlement that the insurance company gave us and I had kind of a minimalist repair done.

Act of nature, should be covered on your Comprehensive coverage

Insurance will cover it - but make sure you ask them if your rates will get jacked up 6-Mos after the fact....

Research your PDR of choice I mine too before hiring. Most will have pics of before/after damages they have worked on and should have online reviews too.

Thx CJ yeah I just did a bit of research and it appears there are 2 or 3 in my area with good ratings. Saw some before and after pics especially a nasty assed hail one which was 10x worse than my car is and looked great! I'm going to call my insurance tomorrow to report the damage but also inquire if it will affect my rates or not though I don't think it would if it falls under comprehensive.

After seeing pics of what can be achieved I have to admit I'm breathing a little easier as I absolutely love this damned car and it feels awful knowing it got banged up even though there was nothing more I could have done.

I’m sorry to hear you are dealing with this. As others have stated, definitely have a PDR guy deal with it. A body shop will end up painting the majority of the vehicle for no reason. I didn’t know the heat could assist, but I’d definitely try that first! Put in a claim, leave her in the sun and research the best PDR in your area. Good luck! 👍
