Any vendor in particular you would recommend?
Pm Alex with American Muscle. I got a great deal from them.

My statement from earlier was wrong. I can hear the exhaust at 70mph. However I enjoy it. :ford:

You appear to have a 3" kit, which I'm sure is a bit louder than my 2.5".

Now that I've driven mine for a week or so, I'm not sure if I'm just getting used to the noise, or if I'm driving differently to try to minimize it, but it's just not too bad. I am a stick car, so I can make sure to keep the rpm under 2k around town. I'm a 3.15 rear, so I'm not hitting 2k rpm until nearly 80mph on the highway. So I might just be an exceptionally good case for the S-Type kit.

I did notice that with the radio on the volume I prefer I don't hear it much. I would definitely recommend this system if you're looking for something that makes a little noise. The deep tone is very awesome.

How did it turn out? I'm wondering if this might be the solution I'm looking for. Trying to find the just right combination of tone and volume. The Borla Touring seems too mild, the FRPP Touring has some people complaining of drone on the forums here, and the FRPP Sport and Borla S-Type seems like they'd be too loud for DD and long highway trips.
Options if you ordered and installed the Borla S type catback and you think it's too loud:

1) As already mentioned order the Borla Resonator, which means you delete the Borla X Pipe and install Resonator instead (remember that the Borla S type catback system and Borla Touring system both come with S-Type mufflers- only difference is Catback comes with X-Pipe and Touring comes with Resonator)

2) Another option is to not spend more money. If you still have your stock exhaust put it back on (with OEM resonator) and simply install the Borla S Type mufflers following the directions for Borla S Type Axleback install.

I have the Borla S type installed as axleback on OEM exhaust (with resonator in place) and it sounds great in my opinion. It is essentially the same as the Borla Touring with resonator although I would guess there is probably some differences in sound due to manufacturing differences between the Ford OEM resonator and the Borla Resonator. (plus the Borla resonator weighs less at around 11 pounds while OEM resonator I believe weighs about 23 pounds).

So, after thinking some this weekend I took off my Borla X-pipe and put back on the factory resonator. For me, the Borla S-Type catback was just too much volume for highway cruising and for a DD. I love the type of sound that the S-Type makes, so I didn't want to lose that aspect.

I cut the factory exhaust so I could only put on the S-Type mufflers, essentially making this an S-Type axleback. The volume level is fantastic now and is very tolerable for anyone that thinks that the S-Type catback is too loud. You still get all the sounds that the catback makes, just with less volume. There's a nice, deep tone at startup, a great growl during acceleration, and I can still hear the exhaust burbling on deceleration.

For anyone that wants the S-Type sound with less obnoxious volume levels, I would highly recommend this. This is option 2.) that BC explained.

In the near future, I may order the Borla resonator to see how it sounds and to save some weight since it weighs significantly less than the factory resonator (option 1.) that BC explained). But, at least for now I am very content with the way the S-Type mufflers sound with the factory resonator.

With that being said, if anyone gets the Borla resonator before I do, could you compare how it sounds vs. the factory resonator? I'd be very interested to hear about your opinion.

Literally on the way back from lunch today a cop was right behind me in stop and go traffic for at least a mile. Just kept the rpm under 2000 and we didn't get to know each other.

I wouldn't say that the Borla Touring will be too mild...... It will be "milder".... but not too mild (vs. S-type). It will be a lot better than the stock system...... And at the same time, during long trips.... you'll appreciate it more.
Again.... as far as noise level goes, it is subjective..... In my opinion, it gets old after a while. That is the reason as to why I have ordered a resonator from Borla.

This thread has me thinking of choosing the Borla Touring over the S-Type for my DD. Any thoughts on what it will cost me in HP difference having a resonator vs. an X-Pipe??? I don't know if a hand held tuner would have that level of customization.

No difference, get whichever you like the most sound wise.

S-type is great..especially if you plan on getting headers at some point. That setup is basically perfect!

Bought mine and got them installed at JBA Speedshop in San Diego. Good guys at JBA. Check them out if you're looking for a place that can make your car fast!

Here's the vid I made after the install. Love Love Love the S-Type! They sound mean! :D

Thanks for the video, 15s550! Sounds great.

I my s-type was delivered on Tuesday, hopefully I'll install it this weekend! Can't wait to hear it in person!
