Check out the MBRP street. Zero drone.I have the exact same setup (S-Type axlebacks w/ 3.73 PP gears) I too find the car too noisy at >70mph. The S-Types sound great driving around town, but they make this loud, monotonous noise on the freeway. Not a problem if you're only driving for say a half hour, but it gets old real quick on long road trips with the cruise on. I'm usually in 6th on the freeway, so there's no way to drop revs.
I drove my car 500 miles home from the dealership with the stock mufflers, and the car was quiet but comfortable with those.
The exhaust note has changed with the Lund tune. They have a much more pronounced crackle now compared to the strong rumble before. Was really interesting to hear such a big difference. Cold start this morning was ridiculous, I just started laughing (I felt bad but good at the same time).
This would be my spot-on description as well, minus the FRPP comments. I still remember asking myself, when I first got mine, how the hell can the ATAK be much louder than this? :eyebulge:I'll offer up my own opinion since I debated between the FRPP Sport and Borla S Type...
The CJPP video clips of the S-Type ultimately sold me on that one over the Sport, and I've had it on my GT PP for a couple of months now.
I'll agree with mauleed, under 2K RPM and it's not very loud. however, I'll counter that by saying I have a hell of a time keeping it under 2k. Maybe that's just me.
I also agree with madweazl, it's crazy loud otherwise. All I can say is, it's a lot louder than I was prepared for. A lot. Cold starts are downright insane, my neighbors have given me some good staredowns.
And yes, even cruising in 6th at 70-75 MPH, it's loud. No drone, but lots of volume.
I figured, no one ever says gee i went too loud, if anything it's gee I wish I had gone louder, but it's loud. I love it, but it's loud. It has great base and low end growl, but even just a little throttle makes this thing scream.
I'll likely end up going to the FRPP Sport.
By all accounts louder. See Bill's video at CJPP. He references the FRPP in the extended S-Type video (the one with the road test...not the install). I don't know many people who have had that many different systems tested on the same car so I put some stock in his opinion.Anyone know how the volume of the S-Type compares to the FRPP Sport? I love the tone of the S-Type but am not keen on getting on my neighbors bad side every time I start the car and also want something comfortable to drive at highway speeds. Or would the S-Type axle back be a good compromise of volume and tone?
So, I just installed my Borla S-Type 2.5" catback today and here's my thoughts. It's definitely loud. Hopefully it's not too loud for a DD, but I'm kinda thinking it might be. Cold starts are loud and cruising on the highway at 65+ is bordering on annoying. However, below 1.5k-2k rpms when driving slower its pretty quiet. Driving around town is fun and it's abundantly obvious that I have an aftermarket exhaust. I'll have to post some videos when I get a chance.
Just a thought, would using the Borla Touring resonator on the S-Type (instead of the X-pipe) essentially turn it into the Borla Touring system? Or would it just reduce the volume of the S-Type a little bit?
How did it turn out? I'm wondering if this might be the solution I'm looking for. Trying to find the just right combination of tone and volume. The Borla Touring seems too mild, the FRPP Touring has some people complaining of drone on the forums here, and the FRPP Sport and Borla S-Type seems like they'd be too loud for DD and long highway trips.Same thoughts here as well. Pretty loud during cold starts.... My neighbors are not too thrilled. My in-laws are not to thrilled either. I do, however, love the sound.... especially when I really get on it. So a compromise had to be reached. I ordered a Borla resonator..... They were out of stock.... Had to wait about month.
