I really like the sound of the Borla S Type Cat back but to me, it's a bit louder than I'd like especially if I'm going to add longtubes.

Would adding mufflers of some sort on the mid pipe help?

Borla sells a resonator specifically for their cat backs. I haven't looked into it but when I eventually go to long tubes that is the direction I'll go.

What do you think is too loud about it? Cab noise or just the perception? I've gotten nothing but rave reviews and comments on my S-type.

That is what I did to my Corsa Xtreme. The shop put in a dual inlet outlet muffler on my x pipe. It is a little TOO quiet now. I was thinking of seeing if there is a smaller muffler they could put instead but I am in no rush. I think if I ever put on LTs, the sound may be perfect.

It's the exterior sound that it's a bit loud for me. It sounds good don't get me wrong I just don't want all the attention that comes with it.

I was looking at the AWE touring system but I've always liked the Borla S Type.

I have an Ecoboost with a complete turbo back exhaust that was too loud in the cabin on boost. I had a muffler shop install a glasspack where the OEM resonator was and it brought the level down about 20-30 percent. A resonator or glasspack should be sufficient.

I'll probably wind up rocking the catback as is and then throw their resonator on when I get the LT's

Their resonator is 2.5" internally and necks down to 2 1/4" at the connects. It's designed to attach to the factory manifolds. You can cut them off and put 2.5" to 3" connects on to mate it up to headers if you go that route. I had this same set up but recently changed the res out to go full 3".

Its funny you don't think the S type is that loud inside with the radio and windows up. But when the weather is decent I love to ride around with the windows down. Around tall buildings, or underneath an overpass, lawd it sounds great. A second gear goose underneath a low overpass or in a tunnel is outstanding.

Yeah the S type for our cars is definitely louder than the catback I had on my 04 cobra and 03 c5z which is weird.

When the guys installed it and ratcheted down the clamps, you could tell how loud it was going to be. It's damn near straight pipes I think.

I’m assuming you don’t have Active exhaust. It is the best option there is for this exact reason.

The Borla resonator is the simplest solution, it's a direct replacement for the Borla X-pipe in their cat-back systems. IIRC that resonator was priced around $220 last time I looked, and there were 2 different part numbers, one for '15-'17 cars, and one for the '18+ cars.

As an alternative, if you don't mind having a couple more clamped joints in the exhaust, you can add a pair of Vibrant straight through resonators. If you measure and cut carefully, you can clamp the inlet of the resonator to the pipe just after the X crossover and clamp the other end to the mid-pipe at the same place the X-pipe was clamped.

Welding would be preferable to clamps, but the last time I was at a muffler shop they wanted a minimum $200 just to touch it with a welder. At that point the Borla resonator is more cost effective.

I don't have the Borla S type but I do have the Ford Racing Sport by Borla which has a very similar tone and volume. I went with these and it did knock them down a tad, just a tad. Still pretty aggressive.

Yeah I'm definitely gonna have it welded. I have a couple of friends who own shops here in Houston I can hit up.
