I 100% agree.Personally, if you are going to spend the money. Why cheap out with h-beam rods? Buck up and get manley pro i-beams. Sleeve it, 2618 alloy pistons and manley pro i-beams.
I think many forget when turbocharging, for example, comes into play....we're talking about 5.0L of displacement.
When you see every run of the mill 03+ Mitsubishi EVO making 600-1000whp with a single turbo upgrade on a 2.0-2.3L engine...you start to think about how much opportunity we have in a 5.0L twin-turbo engine.
Right now, it seems that 1500whp is around the limit of a sleeved, non-filled, short block.
I truly believe that in the next 18-24 months 1200+ whp S550's are going to be a dime a dozen. (I hope most of them are running SBD TT Kits!)
No longer will 800whp even make the front page news story. It won't be worth talking about, as the FI crowd is going to go crazy.
I could be completely wrong, but this is my prediction.
This is a very inexpensive, in comparison, platform from which to make 4 digit power. (Which is, and will continue, to bring outsiders to the S550 platform....as they see it as a solid platform from which to build their street/race car.)
I've said it before, I'll say it again, this is the today's domestic Supra...and we're going to see lots of big builds in the months/years to come in this platform.
Build a sleeved, twin-turbo setup with a glide and you've got a rocket on the street/drag strip/air strip....from a dig or role.....that should hang with just about anything.
