Not sure it will be as fast as a 6R80 car, but we'll try. :D

I'd scratch all these guys ideas.

Go here > http://www.racingjunk.com/

Buy a drag car already done or a built up roller then add an engine/trans. Let someone else spend all the money and you get it for a discount. lol

Done. :D

Keep your current ride a street car.

To me, the perfect S550 GT STREET CAR is a solid mid 9 sec FI build @ 140-145mph ish.

I personally prefer the feel of a TT car, but a blower will also get you there.

That will beat 99% of people you will ever randomly encounter on the streets and give you solid long term reliability @ the 750-800whp level.

That's as far as I feel you can push this platform, on a factory motor/6R80 trans and keep some resemblance of reliability.

Invest your extra funds into getting the car to 60 ft by calling Kelly @ BMR.

Anything beyond that will require more maintenance & upgrades, which may be cost prohibitive to your pocket book, IMO.

Leave the drag car type builds to the shops and customers with deep pockets who can afford to maintain them.

Racing isn't cheap. Maintenance & repairs on 4 digit HP cars is expensive.

Mid 9's at 145ish is where its at with these cars.

They can do this with a quality power adder kit, some suspension and good tuning.

....on 20" wheels!

Talk about streetcar!

100%, this to me is the true beauty of the S550 GT.

I don't know where else you can go and get this sort of performance on a current production model for the price point.

This is a great post. As for failures, I fully intend on sharing my success or failure with my new combo and the 6R80.

My 100% stock 6R80 has outlasted everything else on the car. I find that very amazing, considering the drive line failures that I've experienced.

If the 6R80 fails on me, I will not be putting a non OD GM trans in my car. I will contact my friend Brian @ BTS and have him put me together an indestructible 4R100. OD and L/U, with a programmable controller that I can use with my good ole lap top.
Finally! No way I would put a GM part in my car either. Plus it has OD and is way more streetable than a 2 or 3 speed.

I agree mid/low 9 is a awesome street car. The next step is very costly and I do not want a cage in my street car.

That's where I'm at. We were having issues with the 6r80 shifting into 4th at the power level i'm at now. The 6r80 transmission is good as long as you make it shift out of peak torque. We Raise the Rev limiter up to 7800 on mine and it shifts into 4th fine now at the track. Mine is completely stock with a circle D converter.

i have sold my 2009 GT-R in favour to finding new platform and Chris(SBD) posts about 2015+ mustang brought me to this forum. Im not looking for a drag car, but for the street car which get you 140-145mph trap on stock drivetrain. New Mustang GT looks ok for that, but now reading your comments i think 2013-14 mustang gt would be even better choice. They have same motor, same tranny, ok maybe they dont look that great from inside our outside, but you still can make them handle good and they have weight advantage.
Chris, dont you think you should start the line of turbo kits for this platform as well? :)))

2015 has better heads and cams than a 14. It also has stronger rods that hold 100 more hp safely.

The looks are subjective but I like the 11-14 style.

I'm selling my 6r80 in my 14gt and going with a 3000hp rated glide with a pro-mod gear venders. Gotta have that overdrive.
