On my convertible the trunk will not open, the rear will not work so I am sure it has broken wires.
So here is the problem how to open trunk without breaking stuff?
Nothing works so far

You can let the rear seats down, crawl through or reach into the trunk and pull the emergency release handle that’s clipped to the trunk lid to open it.

With the convertible there is no access because of the top and motor

I know this is for 2010-2014 models, but see if it applies to yours as well.

How to get into 2010-2014 Convertable trunk with dead battery or malfunction
I have a solution for those who have had this problem. I have researched this for weeks, as I could not get into my trunk. The FOB button didn't do it, the button by the shifter didn't do it, and being a convertible, I couldn't crawl through the back seat.

What I found it, the back seat, on the driver's side, pull the cushion away from the side of the car, about in the middle, and hidden away is a key slot that you use your car key to turn and force the trunk open.

That is a great idea but bought it used without a key. I may have to bite the bullet and buy a key

Does it look like your car has the key slot as described above? I’ve only used the hidden key in my fob to open the driver’s door when the battery died. I wonder if it’s a universal key that’s in the Mustang fob? If so, maybe try stopping by the dealership and asking your salesman to borrow one to see if that’ll get it open for you.

The keys are VIN specific and has to bu punched as such. This is why I didn't get 1 yet they are so expensive.

I don't have a vert, but I am sure I read that in that location on a S550 it has a trunk pull cable.

I assume that is where the cable goes that the verts have under the trunk lid but the fastbacks don't ?

I‘m not for sure, but I would think federal regulations would require a way into the trunk on all vehicles.
