I will start off by saying I'm not a noob to the car world, vehicular physics, racing, etc. I have owned quite a few various forms of "performance" vehicles - 1987 Toyota Supra Turbo, 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt SS (turbo), 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP, Ford Probe GT. I've also driven quite a few performance vehicles on occasion - Lotus Elise, Mustangs, Mazdaspeed 3's, RX8's, etc. Typically all of my cars except the last one have been FWD, the last was an automatic AWD CUV. The reason I always owned these types of cars is because they were daily drivers, meaning they see up to 6 months of snow. I thought long and hard about buying a RWD car for a daily driver. Tires have come a long way, so I'm hoping for the best equipping my car with a good set of winters and driving on mostly plowed roads.
Long story short, today was another reminder of just how enjoyable a RWD car is. Entering a major divided roadway today through a long right hand turn with no traffic allowed me to utilize a bit of throttle (just barely enough to continue accelerating) throughout the turn. Even with the factory and very mediocre 235/50/18 P-Zero Nero tires, the feeling was just incredible. The sense of "rotation" you get with the push of a RWD just feels so right. To top it off, the suspension in this car just seems to work very well. You don't really feel the weight of the car until you really push it, but the sense of grip and thrust you get from the rear is quite impressive.
All in all, the '15 is just leaps and bounds better than the '14 overall, but of course no offense to past gen owners. It's small moments like these that remind me why buying this car was a GOOD idea.
Great work Ford! :ford:
