No it does not come with the sensor. The AutoGauge comes with a sensor. I installed a Mishimoto filter adapter plate that has a port for the sensor.
OK, then the oil temp displayed in the factory cluster is probably an inferred temp as well. The problem with the inferred temp is that it will not change when you install an oil cooler (as I did as well). The calculation is not aware of the additional thermal capacity, so it just keeps calculating oil temp as before. This isn't a problem until it hits the "yellow" range (280, I believe). Then the ECU starts pulling power. This is a bummer for HPDE events.

How do the temps compare to the inferred sensor?

My factory cluster doesn't have a choice of engine oil temp and the gauge package is oil pressure and boost.
The coolant temp and cylinder temp get to the normal operating temps pretty quick but the oil takes 4 or 5 miles.

On my 2018, when you select the "gauges" option for the middle screen, you can scroll through a bunch of graphically rendered gauges; head temp, oil temp, diff temp, stoich ratio, volts, etc.

Oil temp and trans temp are NOT available on my 2019 Bullitt's menu, for some reason. And it's not even in the firmware, so no FORScan activation either (I tried). I'm about to install the GT350 gauge pod. What I don't understand is why the hell not get actual oil temperature when there's a sensor in the engine? Or am I missing something?

I would like to install a real oil temp gauge in my 2018 EB PP car. I have the Mishimoto oil cooler installed, and like others noted on this thread, it appears to have little to no effect on the inferred oil temp shown in the gauge cluster. A couple questions for those who have installed a real gauge with oil temp sensor;

1. What gauge did you go with?
2. Where and how did you mount it?
3. How do the actual oil temps compare with the inferred oil temps?

Thanks.
I have this
https://www.autometer.com/2-1-16-oi...gqsindMg3_1fEgOYJ6vRKIF5Lu0ZszWxoCurUQAvD_BwE

I mounted it to a side pillar
https://lmr.com/item/ATM-12135/mustang-autometer-a-pillar-gauge-pod-15-17-12135
This pillar I'll tell has an ok fit. Not perfect :)

Hope this help

Pretty sure we do not have a real temperature sensor. Just pressure.

Indeed. I'm in the middle of installing the GT350 gauges, while also eliminating a couple of rattles in there. Since I won't modify my car, hope the oil temperature gauge from the GT350 is accurate enough. And since the gauges were used, hope they work. But I gutted the gauges (just 4 tabs), so they're in my factory housing now. Also transferred the chrome trim (3 screws), so it's just like if it came from the factory like that :D.

Jim,
Do you know if that Mishimoto filter adapter will also fit on the GT? That sound like a great solution to get accurate oil temps. Has anyone ever put one on a GT? The adapter is about the only inexpensive way I see to get a real sensor to record oil temps given the stock oil pan is composite and does not have a bung for a sensor.

Chuck,
I don't have first hand knowledge that it fits but I think it would. You could email them and see what they say.
You need a 26mm deep socket for the install.

Yeah, looks like a simple install. Have deep sockets.
Have always liked a real temp gauge. A 1966 I had built I used both a autometer oil and transmission temp gauge Always felt much better knowing exact temps of both. The only drawback is where to mount the gauge. Looks like either where you mounted or the A pillar would be the only choices. Would be interesting to see if someone with a GT compared an actual gauge like the autometer with the gauge reading in the digital dash to see how they compare in actual temp readings. Until that is done there is no way to tell the accuracy of the dash gauge.

For true numbers you need a quality mechanical gage.
Ummmm no you don't. Flat diaphragm element are the least accurate. I've seen them reach 212f well after the water was boiling, the infrared showed more accurately. As for the factory gauge, green is green. so your good.

I would like to see a comparison also.
I thought about mounting on the pillar but the wiring was easier where I mounted it. I installed it mainly to make sure the temps were in the normal range before I would run it hard. Will not need to be checking it all the time so that location is fine for me and I will rely on coolant temp as my primary.

Jim,
I looked on their site and they say it is universal and will not have a complete list of vehicles.
However, if the thread pitch is the same than it should work as long as there is room to hang down further.
I think the Mustang GT filter is 3/4" so should work on the GT as well.
Just out of curiosity, what do you use the 26mm deep socket for. On their site they list allen's but that is all they list.
Just trying to get a good mental picture of the install procedure.
