No, not building the motor right now.
Just fixing some oil leaks, cleaning things up, and some items to prepare for FI. Opg and CS being a few of them.
Was going to leave the engine in the car and do it all, but a leak at the oil pan gasket was the last straw. I have all winter, so out it came.

Pulled it out the top, with the trans.
Attempted to pull it with the LTH's, and I could have done it with an extra hand... But it was way easier to zip off the motor mounts and headers once I had the engine half way out.
Afterwards, the combo came out pretty easily and I separated it and got it on the engine stand. I wish I could get the ac condenser to lay under the car or more out of the way, but otherwise with the whole front end off the car there was plenty of room to work.

Definitely much easier to work on that way. Great job thus far! Is the leak at the front or rear of the pan and is it metal or composite?

Leak is as the front of the pan and along the sides. Also the valve covers were leaking. Also the timing cover is leaking a little. It's a 2015 Gen 2 with the steel oil pan.
Got a new M-6675-M50A1 oil pan/gasket set for it, and the aluminum Ford performance valve covers, along with several other goodies.

Cool! Sounds like you should be able to get those leaks taken care of with the new parts.

What kind of Fi system are you planning on running? Will you be installing cams or upgraded valve springs in preparation for Fi?

Yeah, last winter I pulled the rear subframe and went through all of that and beefed up the entire rear-end. This winter it is engine / SC.
For now, I am only going with a BAP and 2020+ GT500 Injectors on 93 with the Paxton 2200SL on a 3.6 pulley and Wengerd tune.
If that turns out to not satisfy my purposes for this car (weekend fun in nice weather, date night, etc..) then I will upgrade items later.
I am upgrading several other items, but not diving into cams or any of that right now.
I think I will be happy with this setup for a while and I have spent enough money for now :lipssealed:
If not, there is always next winter...

Well, it was a productive Saturday here in my garage.
Started out the morning tearing down the timing on the front of the engine, and removed the factory oil pump.

Without going into details, I checked the Hurricane pump out very good.
Clearances were good, and I lubed everything up.
Still can't believe they said it was ok to install it dry and start the car, but I digress.

Got the new pump installed, and spun over the crank a bit to insure everything was good and no tight spots or issues. All is well.

Moved on to the MMR Crank Sprocket.
I do not know why, but as I was about to install it, something told me to compare it to the stock sprocket. Glad I did...

The Timing Mark on the new sprocket is one tooth off.
I honestly couldn't believe it.
Another pic, with the new sprocket installed, marked correctly (red sharpie), and the stock sprocket in front of it:

At this point, I was a little irritated. As a prototype engineer / machinist, these kinds of things are honestly unacceptable. But it is what it is.
I used my red sharpie mark, and began installing the chains / tensioners.

20251220_100249.webp

After that, I was ready to install the new MMR 2011-2017 5.0 Coyote High Flow Oil Pump Pick up tube 455550.
I unboxed it, and found that the factory Ford sticker was half mangled and hanging off of the side. So I finished cleaning it off, before installing it.

20251220_100555.webp

After it was installed, I finished cleaning the mating faces for the front cover and the oil pan.
Then, the new Ford oil pan & gasket M-6675-M50A1 went on along with a little silicone.

20251220_105627.webp

Cleaned up the Front Cover, installed new gaskets and a new front main seal

20251220_120046.webp

Then the new US Motor Works water pump (metal impeller) went on, along with its pulley.
Also the ATI Super Damper. I picked up the installation tool when I bought this (from @beefcake)
and that made it a very easy install.

20251220_140715.webp

That is it for today.
The new FP aluminum valve covers are next, along with the engine accessories.
I did not mean for this thread to be any sort of brand bashing.
With that said, I would have made different choices on my purchases, purely based on what I witnessed from a quality control perspective, had I known then what I know now.
After some further forum searching (that I should have dove deeper into prior to buying components) it seems that I am not alone on that point.
I digress, I made everything work as it should at the end of the day.

Looking forward to the valve covers and other items, maybe tomorrow, to get closer to dropping it back in the car!

Was on the fence of whether I would make a build thread for everything I am doing this winter, but decided not to do a full in depth one.
I will update here some with things I find useful though!
This is the fun part.

just something to note. I run the same pick up on my sleeved gen2. I had to tweak the leg on the pick up to get it to sit properly with in the factory ford spec clearance bottom of the pan.

taped it up , bit of modelling clay , then plastic over it.... simple to get the clearance right.

@eisenhauer01 man that really stinks about the MMR sprocket. Clearly a quality issue by thier vendor that they missed. Good thing you caught it. I assume you simply put a new mark on it. Here is a pic of an older mmr cs I had laying around.

Yeah I just used the red sharpie mark. I don't ever plan to sell this car, so as long as I have it and I'm alive, if it ever needs to come back apart I'll know what the deal is. I really wanted to make some progress today, otherwise I would have taken it into work and milled a new mark on it in the correct place.

Another good day.

I gapped the new plugs, and installed them first.

20251221_081540.webp

Then I installed the new GT500 Aluminum Cam Covers, the alternator, coil packs, and idler & tensioner pulleys.

Then I worked on cleaning up the engine bay. It was a mess from years of seeping oil leaks.
I forgot to take a "before" picture, but it cleaned up really nice. The power steering and AC were black before I started..
I bought a case of some foaming engine degreaser that is made by WD-40, and it is really awesome! After letting it soak for a bit, I agitated all of the areas with a brush, then I used a small pump sprayer with water to wash everything off. It came out good. Big improvement.

I am pretty much ready to drop the engine back in.
On the fence for if I am going to mate the trans up and drop it in together, or if I will install the engine first and then put the trans in from the bottom. I have already done it both ways at this point, so I already know some things are easier / harder for each path. Just haven't decided yet.

It was perfectly fine to install the pump as is, but you would want to pre-prime the engine with engine oil before 1st startup. Still a good idea now as it can expose any leaks you have.

Got the engine off of the stand this afternoon, and installed the flywheel and clutch

20251223_155112.webp

Then got the trans mated up

The neighbor popped over and helped me fish it into the hole

20251223_171729.webp

Now it is sitting on its new Steeda motor mounts, waiting on the new Ultimate Headers to arrive so I can button up a few things before installing the Paxton.
It feels good to have the engine back in the car.

Why buy a companies product if you don't think they are correct despite being an expert in the field? Seems pretty dumb
Yea this is a pretty stupid post. Why buy things from people you don't trust to manufacture their product?
