I just tested 47 Mbps out in the garage. Odd that it wouldn't download Sync without moving the router.
The wireless device in Sync is a simple wireless n single channel unit so will always struggle - probably why Ford gave up on it. Sync updates over WiFi are a non starter. Even if you can get a stable connection Sync will turn off well before the download is complete.

The built in 4g modem in newer cars can download in the background for as long as it takes before updating.

Both apps require the use of your phone and connection to Android Auto or Apple CarPlay. Both the Waze app and the Ford + Alexa apps must be loaded on your phone as well.
The Ford + Alexa is a Sync Applink app it does need to be on your phone but it functions independently from Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and your phone does not need to be hardwired to Sync. Once it is installed on your phone you select the Apps menu on Sync and search for apps. Once Sync finds it it will show on the apps menu.

I use it a lot and seldom use Android Auto.

Thanks for the correction Dave. I’m An Apple guy so I must have misunderstood what I was reading. I’ve read a number of security concerns with Alexa. Does this concern you having on your phone and in your car as well?

I use Acast for podcasts in a similar way. It appears on Sync as a 'source' similar to radio and CD etc. I never use Android Auto just Sync plus Applink.

I just updated to Build 20282 using the Cyan Labs updater. Went without a hitch and is running smoothly.

The issues I have heard about Alexa are in regards to the stand alone devices. Plus Amazon has been quick to fix any vulnerability that is discovered. The Ford+Alexa app on the phone is only active when I launch it from the car. It's not like the Google Assistant or Siri that is always listening for the key words.

I just did the sync update but I can't remember how long it took. My map update took 1 hr and 8 minutes.
It was around 25 minutes, if memory serves me right. The maps also took around 1hr 10 min for me... but had to do it twice, because did it before the Sync3.4 update, and correct map version didn't show.

Hey gang, so what is the reported HVAC improvement on this version? And can I download it on a 8Gb USB stick?

Finally, the new Tesla I just bought for my wife has no freaking USB (the regular one) ports; WTF? Only 4 tiny ones. Geez.

Hey guys, do you have SIX files on the SyncMyRide folder? The Ford example shows 7, but I only have 6. Will give it a try, and see if all goes well. Funny they ask for an 8Gb stick, when it's actually less than 2 gigs (1.75), in case somebody has a smaller one; it shouldn't be an issue. Will report results shortly.

EDIT: Just did it, and it updated sucessfully, so 6 files is what it should be. Clicked on 'details', and it didn't say what was updated, so no idea. Nothing that I noticed though, but didn't drive it.

Just make sure you have the 381, 391 and 423. Some downloads aren't being fed all the files at the moment, e.g. one might be missing the 391 Voice pack, and another might only have the 381 Apps pack. If you're coming from 3.4.20136 or earlier, it should be updating the Apps, Voice and Gracenotes packs.

I wonder if you can help with another issue that has cropped up from time to time when the final xml file generation fails and a folder called interlog_nnnnn is created with a file containing the following:

InterrogatorLog() +
CopyInterrogatorLog +
Interrogator log generation unsuccessful
CopyInterrogatorLog -
InterrogatorLog() -
getVINnumber thread already terminated

No xml file is generated but not obvious why the error is being thrown. A few other forums have posts mentioning this.

Thanks

Following on from the above (as I now get that interlog file) ...

My first download gave me the five files on the left - they gave me an xml file but once uploaded, Ford failed to recognise the sync update (although it appears to work perfectly).

My second download gave me the seven files on the right - they give me no XML file and the interlog file exactly as per the above post.

If it makes a difference, I am a euro car using the Ford UK site :like:

Any help really appreciated :like:

Can't really be of any help on why the interrogator fails. No knowledge of the inner workings on that bit. For the file sets, those look fine for an EU build. Left would appear to be 3.4.20136 where you have the Voice and Apps packs, then 3.4.20282 where you have Voice + Apps + Gracenotes.

As the car is running 20282 successfully :

Is there a way to force the creation of the xml file so I can then update the maps from F8 to F9 ?

I know there was an online hack / download that would create the xml but the link seems to be broken, does anyone have a copy of that download ?

Cheers,

The XML is just to update for Ford backend with what is installed. You should be able to update to the latest maps without issue I would think, as if it shipped with F8 the system should still contain that information. A way around the XML is, assuming you can hook up to Wi-Fi, run an update check. The current installed package information should then get updated on the Ford end.
