Not arguing the deserving respect comment, they doEveryone deserves respect. A little extra doesn’t hurt when given to someone who is willing to do a job with their life if necessary. Especially one that you’re not willing to do but generally benefit from everyday.
But can we recognize plenty other people risk their lives daily, police officer is no 22 in the list https://www.ishn.com/articles/112748-top-25-most-dangerous-jobs-in-the-united-states
14 per 100,00 workers versus loggers at 111 per 100,000.
I respect that for loggers the trees are not maliciously killing them or for pilots or derrick operators or roofers that the cause of death is not intent by another human being as evidenced by the statement " The most common cause of death for police officers at work is violence by persons."
And I didn't cherry pick that list it was the first search item that came up for "top 10 most dangerous jobs in the us".
There are plenty of other jobs I am not willing to do, Nurse, firefighter, teacher etc. etc. to each their own, but if any of those professions behaved badly we'd expect them to be held to account as well. And equally just because 1 or 2 are bad apples we don't assume that they all are (except Catholic priests, them I tar with the one brush!). Same for police, it's a job a profession, it demands a higher level of accountability because of the powers granted with the position. And I in turn treat them with the respect they deserve.
