Thanks to mattlqx we have a source of filters at a reasonable price. Now, oil. I paid $120 per case at the stealership. What other brands meet ford spec WSS-M2C931-B? Best place to buy? Saving $16 on the filter and another 20% on oil might save enough to buy a tire!

Amsoil 5W-50 meets Ford's requirements. Order it on their website. Sign up as a dealer on the site, and they'll give you a pretty big discount.

Walmart has good prices if they stock the weight you need.

Amsoil is your best choice. I have been using Amsoil for over 25 years and they make the best lubricants. I used to be a dealer but now I get it from my parts supplier (NAPA) and he still sells it to me at the dealer cost but doesn't charge me shipping. It's a win win for me. That's the only down size with Amsoil is the shipping fees. As a dealer you can get it cheaper then Mobil 1 and your also getting a better oil. Amsoil was first to the synthetic oils. If you plan on keeping your car or doing any performance driving which I know we all will after a break in period I would switch to Amsoil in all the fluids. For engine oil we need to use Amsoil PT# AMRQT which list for around $11.50 per Qt. or $136.40 per 12 Qt case. Again this is list cost not dealer cost. If I remember correctly I think the dealer fee is $20-$30 fee per year and you will get about 30% off list cost. If I remember right.

He's over here asking which oil to buy and I'm over here like, "Dude, Where's my car?!?" :frusty:

LOL I used Joe Gibbs Driven Oil in the race car. I will have to see what they have available for the Shelby. If you email them, you will probably talk to Lake Speed, Jr. He is a great guy and a wealth of information. Tell him exactly how you intend to drive the car and he will point you in the right direction.

I'd just like to mention one thing. The "W" in oil isn't meaning weight. It means "W" winter. People think it means weight.

Amsoil is great. It's worthwhile if you plan on ordering a good amount for yourself or others.

Gibb's is a good oil, so is RedLine and Motul.

Motul and RedLine are the only two oils to have a ester base stock which does have better properties than any of other synthetics on the market today.

Motor oil brands are like religions; there are many different options, but everybody is certain that their choice is the only logical choice.

My two cents: be skeptical of claims without evidence. Without a UOA (Used Oil Analysis), any comments about one oil being better than any other don't carry any weight. I look forward to seeing UOAs on this site and making an evidence-based decision on what oil to use.

Is there a good guide to what the results of an oil analysis means? I see there are ranges and things but I'd like the context of what something being low or high actually means.

Wheeeee!

When you get a UOA the vendor generally shows universal averages for the metals and detergents in the oil. Over time when you keep sending samples in for testing you get a personalized average for your car as well so you get a baseline. I use it on my autox car to see how the bearings are doing. If I get a report back with a lot more lead in it I know something is up. On the street cars it's once every other oil change or once a year.

Personally, I really like Motul and Pennzoil Platinum products, but neither one makes a 50 weight oil in their street oils. Motul has a 15w-50 in their 300v line that I use in autox cars and Mobil 1 has their 15w-50 that I've used in several road race cars in the past with good success, but it'd be a little thicker than I like on start up.

I've ran Amsoil in the past when I got some for super cheap, but there wasn't any real difference at the time vs the normal Pennzoil I used. If there was evidence showing that wear was significantly better using Amsoil vs the Ford oil I'd consider it. Otherwise I'll stick with the factory fill until an obviously better option comes out.

I'm not saying that Amsoil is better than every other oil out there, but I will say that factory Ford oil is worse than just about every oil out there. The shear rate on it is insane. I would switch mine to some type of full synthetic after the break in period.

There are UOAs on other forums posted on how thin the Ford oil gets in a very short time. Check into it if you want to see it in black and white.
