Why would you want to start it up remotely?

I used to work as a mobile electronics installer while in college and we don't install remote starts in manual cars. One of fellow installers (he owned a 2001 Mustang Cobra) installed it himself and had a clutch bypass put in. He let a coworker drive it to go grab food. He didn't realize the coworker left it in gear and he remote started it. It was cold that day so the idle was high (which prevented the car from stalling) and it went straight into a light pole in the parking lot while we all watched! It was crazy.

FWIW: BMWs no longer come with manual remote start. (But they use to.)
When? Was neither standard nor optional in either 2009 or 2015 when I bought mine.

Isn't it ironic the manufacturers don't want to option a remote start feature for manual transmissions for liability reasons. Yet they allow adaptive cruise speeding up and slowing down; lane assist features trying to keep the "texter's" in their lane; emergency assist braking in-case someone forgets or is too slow to apply the brake; and self driving Uber's, Tesla's, etc. If they wanted, they could put enough interlock features on the shutdown and restart program that an issue shouldn't occur.
I believe the majority of accidental starts is a factor of installers leaving safety features uninstalled and others trying to defeat the safety features.

I know my 2003 330ci (manual) had remote start.
Did you buy it new? All the threads I can find over on the BMW forums indicate that remote start was an aftermarket option that was a PITA to get installed and working properly.

Yes, every car I have ever owned, I have ordered.
I was upset when my 135is didn't have remote start, & the sales person did "??". I had to explain to him too.

I totally agree. However, I wouldn't use the word lavished if you're down here in August. LOL
Then you have every need for remote start. Just think. Remote start with an OAT of 90 and an RH of 85%. The AC kicks on at startup and cools the interior down, the cooled seats turn on make it easy on your balls and the little lady's coochie when you go to sit down on the charcoal leather seats (rather than fry both off), and the world is a gentler, happier, and better place because of it. So now you know why remote start would even suffice for a Floridian. LOL!

Personally having spent time in the middle of the Indian Ocean riding the equator in July as well as time in the Bearing Sea flirting with the Arctic Circle in October aboard a carrier, I've seen both extremes. I'll take the heat over the cold any day. The one thing I miss about living in San Diego is the climate......and Roberto's Carne Asada Burritos.

Back in the summer of 90 we were sent to do 90 days of patrols in the Persian gulf, the inlet seawater temp was around 115 F. It was so hot in the engine room, we were restricted to only 2 hours on duty and 4 hours off. Never got to go any farther north than the Columbia river to go to Portland Ore. for the rose festival one year. When I was in Sun Diego, we used to go to a 24 hr burrito joint in Chula Vista for the best carne asada burritos I ever had, I think it was called Alberto's. Before I joined the Navy, I thought mexican food was taco bell, now I won't go anywhere that place, I wouldn't even feed that garbage to my dog.

Take it from someone who used to live in Phoenix, remote start is not just for cold climates. I don't miss it on my mustang, it's just a toy and a convertible so I don't need it, but my new Explorer has the ford pass on it and I can remote start it from my phone anywhere in the country.

Brother we chewed some of the same seas together. I was at Miramar by the time 1990 rolled around.I did two tours in that pond, the Persian Gulf, and the Strait of Hormuz in 87 and again in 89 on Connie CV-64. Was Ships company for 3 years and there fighting the big fire in 88. I have eaten Carne Asada at that Albertos in Chula Vista but my fave was Romero's on Mission Blvd near Garnett in Pacific Beach. Like you I thought TB was mexican. Hated the crap until a buddy had me stop at one of those places one night for a Burrito. The smell made my mouth water. For 10 years after I got out in 1993 I would dream about being laid over in SD on a flight to a job site and would try to figure out a way to leave the airport rent a vehicle drive to PB for a Burrito and get back before missing my flight but could never pull it off. In 2003 I returned to SD for the decom of my old 1st SD home USS Constellation CV-64. As soon as i got my rental car I headed to Romero's just like in my dream. I made it this time and sat in the parking lot across from Mission Beach and ate both of them.

My 17 has it and like you I consider it a foo-foo device and actually have only used it once to see if it worked. I used it from inside the house to start the car out in the detatched garage one day just to annoy the douchebag neighbor. The car came with a pretty loud catback exhaust on it (without being a delete system) when I bought it used.

I was on the Barbey FF-1088, whenever we went on deployment, we were paired with the Nimitz. We actually arrived in the Persian gulf on August 1st, 1990. On August 2nd, that a-hole invaded Kuwait, we were at GQ for 3 days straight because of him. After I got out in 91, they gave the Barbey to Taiwan on the lend lease program and a few years later they bought it, I believe it's still in service to this day.

We were on station when the USS Stark got slammed in 87. Lost a bunch of liberty ports. Only saw three total ports that cruise. PI, Pert, PI......and a brief day or two at Diego Garcia aka Dodge City if you wish to call it that...but having dirt under your feet regardless of where is better than haz-gray-under-way.

Thanks for your service fellow squid!
