Weight is the enemy. Carbon fiber rules…until the next new technological invention comes about. Ooh, I just a set of unobtanium wheeLS. 100% weight-free. Vegan, too!

I've seen several instances over time of random CF wheel failures in the motorcycle realm on forums. Some with ugly consequences. One has to wonder how well they are engineered and produced. For me, they're no bueno on a bike for the obvious reasons, plenty of other things trying to kill you.Been on these forums for a long time and I have NEVER seen a wheel that failed due to anything other than a serious accident or road incident that would also ruin any aluminum wheel. I agree that when a CF wheel is in an incident, it might break up in spectacular fashion - but the same incident would almost certainly render any car undrivable even if it was an aluminum wheel.
I challenge anyone to find a post where a CF wheel (I really only have experience with the Ford CF wheels) failed for no good reason - it would be a sticky for sure if this was somthing that happened.
I bet most of the people in that thread, saying how Gordan Murray doesn't like CF wheels are running cheap cast chinese wheels on their cars. Funny.
That seems typical of Ford wheels. As CF pertains to the Ford wheel offerings, I suspect they are over-engineered and I doubt a complete failure would happen randomly.
He’s a real car guy. Says so in his usernameHere's a real winner. Most of these guys are just parroting and making up reasons why CF is a bad choice for wheels..obviously without ever owning or even actually knowing anything about them.

LOL ... these guys are clowns!Such garbage. I can’t believe GM, Ford, Ferrari, Koenigsegg, McLaren and Porsche (yeah they’re wrong, there is a 911 option for CF wheels) would put that rubbish on their cars. Hope you all with CF wheels immediately replaced them so they don’t burst into pieces like these guys said happened to theirs.![]()
I'll ask you the same question that I would ask that group: Tell me about your experience with your carbon fiber wheels. Curious to hear about the problems you've had which led you to this very astute conclusion! The thing about CF wheels is that they're notch sensitive which may be a headache some owners don't want to deal with. Properly maintained they can last for years but it can be a PITA if you're not one of those types that meticulously maintains your car. Aluminum isn't notch sensitive and AFAIK magnesium isn't either, but it has other issues.

Tire is never on the wheel long enough for the bead to stick to the wheel hoop lip on a track car .I’d argue that guys like Tom that track their CF wheels pretty extensively are changing tires as frequently as those that would daily drive enough to rack up the kind of miles you’re talking about, if not more.
Use them or lose them. From time. Can’t resist. Explain to me how to properly care for a carbon fiber wheel. You know, like the ones on my R that are painted. I’ll leave alone the one’s on my 500 at this point.
