Neighbors complaining about cold start-ups

As far as seeing how subjectivity works, what about a woman leaving her house with her face, legs, and shoulders showing? If she thinks the amount of skin showing isn't inappropriate, but some neighbors do, I guess their wrong. Now if those same neighbors stripped down naked and rubbed their privates all over her window, and she thought that was inappropriate but they didn't, then I guess she would be wrong. I'm not exaggerating, I'm just explaining how subjectivity works.

Bad example, as running around naked and rubbing your junk all over someone's window is illegal. Cops would probably throw that dude in a mental institution for evaluation.

Lol, No one has complained about my car, eVen though I used to wake up at 2-3 AM to go to work.

Now a days I drive a '98 Camry to work, But occasionally I take the Mustang (Like yesterday and today)... Cold start is super loud!

It's now 5:10AM and I must go to work, Time to wake up thy neighbors! Peace!

We weren't discussing the legalities of this, I was showing why Stipler's example of an open headers bike right outside your window revving was an unnecessary exaggeration.

I never said that exaggerations couldn't be used to make a point. In fact, I said the opposite the very sentence before my own exaggeration...

I could understand your point if someone had suggested there were no limits at all to sound annoyances and that was your rebuttal. But I don't recall that point being made so there is no need to go to an extreme.

You can use exaggerations to make a point, its just unnecessary to do it in this instance.

My outlandish exaggeration was only done to highlight the absurdity of the original exaggeration I responded too.

I swear, yall are making this way too complicated. If you're going to exaggerate an aftermarket muffler's cold start to a open header bike revving its engine why not compare it to a jet engine taking off, battleship's main guns being shot, or a NASA space shuttle launch? Again, if you have to exaggerate to that length in this context you're just making a bad point - its reaching. Reasonable people will put up with the volume of a cold start on a Corsa extreme exhaust. How many people are in that complex? How many notes has he gotten? Seems like the majority doesn't mind and/or it doesn't bother them enough to actually say something about it.

I would do my best to keep the volume to a minimum (change parking spots, aim exhaust away, put it in gear fast to drop the rpm's to normal idle, no excess throttle while in the complex, etc) but I wouldn't change out my exhaust because one person, or even a few people, are complaining about less than 30 seconds of a cold start. They can just deal with it.

Honestly. If a 30 second or less start up is all that it takes to upset someone they have bigger problems than the OP's exhaust.

It's the same attitude I see from some smokers. The just deal with it mentality as they stand outside an entrance and blow smoke into people's faces as they walk in. Yeah people can just deal with it. But do you really want to be that guy? I'd rather be the polite neighbor that keeps up his property and you never hear a peep out of. A kind of guy that everyone wants to be their neighbor. I want to contribute to having a peaceful quiet neighborhood not be a nuisance. Treat others as you want to be treated. You say it won't kill them to hear your noisy exhaust in the morning. It also wouldn't kill you to show some respect to the people in your condo.

Not specifically talking about the OP as he seems to get it and is trying to remedy the loudness.

I agree to an extent. Living somewhere peaceful is always the goal. My exhaust annoys my neighbors, so I talked to them and said that wasn't the goal. its just what I wanted on the car and they understand. I listen to their kid cry and scream or their dogs bark all day and they listen to my exhaust. we don't live in a perfect world and people will always find something to complain about.
I believe in doing what makes your happy. If you buy a car and want performance mods that make it a little loud, then you should be able to do it. don't be an arrogant asshat about it, but do what makes you happy. You cant go around pleasing everyone because you will end up being unhappy. Did we all not buy this car to make it our own?
IE - my neighbors have complained that my lights shine into their window when I am coming home at night. I would just turn my lights off when I come into my complex, but there are no street lights to provide lighting. so in this case, and the case of the OP's neighbors is this - there is nothing I can do. sorry man.
98 percent of people on here have loud exhausts and they probably all annoy at least one person a day. so no one here really has any right to be an asshole and tell people they are wrong. there was a book written a long time ago that has some good guidelines for living life. something about casting stones..

Where I used to live, a neighbor had an extremely sensitive security alarm. Some nights, kids would run by and just give a push and the alarm would go off. He did not have a remote shut off. He began to find notes under his wipers complaining. He still set his alarm...nobody was going to tell him what to do! One morning after another false alarm he found someone had busted his windshield in with a baseball bat. He never set his alarm again. Even 'friendly' neighbors have a breaking point!
