Why not go with a 2.5 pipe? 2.25 is the stock size isn't it?
Correct 2.25" is the stock exhaust pipe size. Not every stock spec needs to be upgraded though. There are two main reasons why I stuck with the 2.25".

1. I have about 7ft of 2.25" stainless steel pipe left over from my previous exhaust.

2. Every aftermarket company was moving to bigger 2.5" piping with their 11-14 catback systems. Our 3.7 does not need 2.5" piping... That was a big issue that no one seemed to notice. The key to any exhaust system is keeping the exhaust gases moving at a certain velocity throughout the system. This is why straight through mufflers make a difference. The important thing to note here is that a larger pipe diameter DECREASES exhaust gas velocity while a smaller pipe diameter increases velocity. This is all relative of course. You want the smallest pipe diameter possible without going to small as to cause restriction from the pipe not being able to handle the exhaust gas volume.

A 2.75" mid pipe down to 2.5" catback is just a bit to big in my opinion and understanding of exhaust systems. This is where I believe people were experiencing their low RPM power drop. It is not the headers but rather their exhaust pipe size. The OEM 2.25" should be a sufficient to retain low end and still provide some gains in the upper RPM's.

Good luck with it zach. I been waiting to see some results from the long tube headers available now. Your setups usually sound pretty good.

Thanks! I am hoping I can get a nice deep note with little to no rasp. A hard thing to do on a V6 with no cats from what I can see from previous attempts on the 11-14 generation.

So it was like christmas when I got home from work today! I have to say, this is probably going to be the prettiest exhaust I have done thus far! :D

Last two pictures are the inside of the 11385 resonated x pipe.

And the pipes have arrived! Everything is set now for this weekend. Tomorrow will consist of placing the car on jack stands, removing the OEM exhaust, and removing OEM headers. From there it will be installing the LT headers and getting the O2 sensors squared away (making extensions if needed). This will probably take the entire day. If not I will start on fabricating the mid pipe. Sunday will be completing the full header back exhaust and hopefully some sound clips!

Eager to hear it resonated. If it manages to be mellow ish and not too raspy, I'll be sold.

Don't know if it was stated, but what are you planning to do in regards to going catless and CELs?

I'm hoping for the best but I'm guessing a very canny sound.

Ok guys it is finished! 12hrs later.... Sorry but no sound clips tonight... Plan to get them up tomorrow! It has a very deep sound at idle! Higher rpms have a deep tone but also have a bit of rasp... It is not bad though. Plus the car was relearning how to run so this could also be contributing to the rasp. No CEL's yet thanks to the vibrant performance J pipes! We shall see if this holds true once I get some miles on the car.

One thing though.... NEVER build an entire exhaust while it is 90 degrees outside with around 90% humidity...

I am using Vibrant Performance o2 defoulers to move the rear o2 sensors out of the exhaust flow. This simulates the inside of a cat for the sensor.
