I noticed that coating on the synchros was gritty like sandpaper and easily rubbed off on my fingers. The inner bearing race on the input shaft also looked like this. I don’t know if this was caused from the factory fluid or not,
Motorcraft XL-18 additive could have caused this.
I changed out the factory fill at 18k miles to get the stinky reactive XL-18 out.

My 2019 owners manual does not list XL-18, maybe Ford stopped putting it in when they went to the D4 transmission?

As a side note, I drove my 1994 Z28 (T-56) 25 years with ATF in the transmission and I ran it hard sometimes. No problems.

It's only in the shop manual if you are installing a new unit or rebuilding an existing one, then it states to use it. So in theory they all have it in there.

As far as BG Synchroshift, I don't think it's really an issue to use it, but it's a lot thicker than the OE spec. Whether that really matters? Probably not at all. Splash lubricated manual gearboxes aren't that picky about oil, unless it's one that actively attacks the brass components.

Are you sure?
The EU Mustang owners manual asks for the spec WSS-M2C200-D2.
RAVENOL DCT/DSG meets the spec WSD-M2C200-D2.
I would say, that RAVENOL DCT/DSG is not correct for the MT82.

Only RAVENOL MTF-2 SAE 75W-80 and RAVENOL MTF-3 SAE 75W are meeting spec WSS-M2C200-D2.
https://www.ravenol.de/en/properties/empfehlung/ford-wss-m2c200-d2

I know that some here use RAVENOL MTF-2 SAE 75W-80.
My understanding is that RAVENOL MTF-3 SAE 75W is the successor of RAVENOL MTF-2 SAE 75W-80.
Both are full synthetic (off-spec RAVENOL DCT/DSG is just a hydrocrack oil).

Couple of things here.
Yes, there are a few M6G past forum members using Ravenol DCT.

As far as WSS vs. WSD
I’ve seen this published a few places
Alt OE SKUs:
XT-11-QDC, WSS-M2C200-D2, XT11QDC, WSSM2C200D2, WSD-M2C200-D2, WSDM2C200D2

About (hydrocracked)
We know the API vs. ACEA don’t see eye to eye with naming Group III / III+ oils as full synthetic.

For reference Motul Multi-DCTF is classified as a blend (Technosynthese)

WSD seems to be 75W90 for hotter climate while WSS is 75W80 for colder climate?

I drive my MT-82 year around at times in -0°F. Believe me, it matters.
I can shift this thing with no effort right out of the driveway on the coldest winter days.
I mean I agree with you there, in cold conditions it definitely matters. That's why OE spec is set the way it is. My car is the same as yours, with the Motul I never have any issues regardless of the temperature.

I just meant from a wear perspective that it mostly doesn't matter

Little advise over here folks!
I'm living in a hot weather almost the entire year. After spending so many time looking for a suitable fluid for my MT82, I thought I could get the Amsoil SEVERE GEAR 75W-110 to eliminate the heat factor in my Diff. Also I got stuck between BG or Amsoil DCT ? for my appliation and climate !?Stock transmission + MGW -X SPEC shifter + Mcloed RST, Should I take two quarts of Amsoil DCT+0.75 mixed with the SEVERE GEAR 75W-110 ( as a lube ) since the Calimer cocktail is less preferable in the DCT's ?
OR : should I get the BG syncroshift II with the spec of ( 75W - 140 ) for the tranny!
Appreciate the input in advance,

Just go with Motul fluids based on your geography and accessibility.
Just Say No to the VooDoo Cocktail sauces.

I just put Redline MT-LV in my car at 100,000 miles on the transmission. Smooth as butter cold and hot. I highly recommend.

I used to have notchy 1-2 and 2-3 in the cold.

I've run the Ford factory fill (from 2017) with no issues, Amsoil MTF (notchy in sub 20F temperatures, otherwise great) and now Ford fill DCT fluid (kinda notchy everywhere and all temperatures). I've always had excellent results with Redline MTL in other cars.
I'm planning on a mixture of MTL and MTL-LV after I replace the factory clutch. I haven't decided on the ratio yet to compromise low and high temp performance. Considering 1.7 quarts MTL and 1 quart MTL-LV.

YMMV.

Still on the factory clutch?
