Hey everyone.

I’m a little curious about intervals that you guys follow when it comes to the manual transmission in the s550.

I’ve seen 30-60k miles to change it, I’ve seen it at 100k, of course preventative maintenance is good, and the 30-60k is probably a good rule to follow.

I am embarrassed to admit this, but I’m at 65k miles, 90% of my miles since I’ve owned it in the last 40k miles have been highway miles cruising at 75-80mph.

I don’t really drive hard/do pulls since I got a speeding ticket for going 98 in a 65. I’ve really laid back in recent years.

i have the Op mustang bg synchro 2 kit in hand ready to change my fluid but im curious, did I fuck up waiting so long?

I don't think FORD even recommends changing it. Could be wrong though. Anywho I change mine every couple years.

I’m glad I am not crazy. I just have seen people say before 60k miles is usually a good time. But you know how the internet is.

I think it's fine to change it whenever you like. There is a lot of heat inside of these transmissions and heat can/does reduce the efficiency of fluids. I’ve changed mine twice in 5600 miles, using BG Syncro Shift II. I’m currently at 8800 miles and will be changing it again once I complete the next round of mods to the car.

I would bet your transmission is fine. If it's not, it's unlikely it's from not changing the fluid sooner. Highway cruising miles are gentle.

I think anywhere from 50-75k is fine for a normal DD. Track users seem to swap fluid every few events.

Changing fluid on the MT82 is super easy too.

your fine but change it. You have the BG kit and it s pretty easy. I did mine way early at 20K.

Yeah nothing wrong with the transmission.

Just has a little notchy shifts sometimes.

Excited to change it.

Better now than never. I had some shifting issues so I changed mine at 35k. If you have it level on jack stands, it is pretty simple.

If you’re worried, send some in for oil analysis when you change it. I track my car frequently and my trans fluid was oxidized and insolubles maxed out at 30,000 miles (and I’ve changed it twice before already). Ford does recommend changing it but at 150k miles. If you’re not tracking it, you’re “fine” at your mileage but you still have break in metals in there you’ll want to get out. Fresh fluid makes the shifter feel buttery smooth.

If you already have BG SSII, change it now!! It makes a noticeable difference in shift quality.

I went with BG 2 for my fluid change at 30k miles & about 5 years old.

It definitely made a small difference.

The other thing to try is Motul DCTF I believe it's called. People also say it's awesome.

I went with BG 2 due to it being used for 10+ years in all the MT82 generations and being a proven improvement.
