Is the MT82-D4 transmission the exact same between the Ecoboost and the Coyote variants?

I don't know if the differences are relevant to you question, but info like this suggests there are at least 'some' differences :

The 15-17 is a different transmission than the D4 which is found in the 18+ Mustang.

I know that, but note these comments from the GT advert :

And these comments from the equivalent EB advert :

Ah thanx bruddah, didn't even see this but it makes sense physically they are almost the same dimensionally. But I was wondering if I took a transmission and put it on a GT would it be exactly the same. I guess I'll look at clutches too.

Yeah I figured if an after market parts supplier has to make two parts rather than just use one that crosses both models, there must be a good reason for it.

It might be something nominal that won't affect your particular application, but those adverts suggest that its defo worth checking into rather than just assuming they are interchangeable.

I wonder if Calimer or someone like that would be helpful and guide you - it might be as simple as swapping the GT / EB shifter assemblies over etc ?

@NGOT8R - Did you find anything out during your box project ? :like:

I thought about that. Ecoboost D4s are SUPER cheap. I was going to have one built by him and then just swap it in and keep my D4 with my engine to go into a fox....

I didn’t, but in reading the adverts for the GT and EB, the mention of removing the NVH weight makes me think that the casings are similar. I don’t know much about the EB tranny, but if someone can confirm whether it does or doesn’t have Rev matching and the gear position indicator on the dash like the GT, those would be a couple of differences off the top of my head.

I'll look on ford.com to see if it has rev matching, I have an 18 so i don't need that.
I also believe that only a stage 1 calimer is a good deal with the 26spline input shaft. I'm sure that the tranny will handle more HP with those upgrades. I don't see the need to micro-polish and cryo-treat stock gears when you can get the upgraded 3-4 in the stage 3.

@WD Pro, now you’ve got me curious, I just pulled up Steeda’s shifter page and the physical appearance of the GT and EB shifters looks to be the same.

https://www.steeda.com/mustang-short-throw-shifters
the shifters are the same

https://www.steeda.com/steeda-s550-mustang-tri-ax-short-throw-shifter-2015-all-555-7316.html

Steeda's S550 Mustang Tri-Ax Street Short Throw Shifter for the 2015+ Mustang GT, EcoBoost, and V6 dramatically improves your Mustang's gear shifting. From the factory you may have noticed a slight buzzing coming from your shifter. Our Steeda street short shifter not only gives you a reduction in throw, but also fixes your factory shifter rattle.

I agree with this. I tried to order the gears direct from GForce and Calimer, but GForce couldn’t sell them because they were proprietary for Calimer and Calimer said they only sell them if they build the tranny. That’s the reason I sent out all of my internals for Cryo and WPC enhancements. Aside from that, I added the billet shift forks for gears 1-4 and carbon fiber lined synchros. I wish I could have purchased a 26 spline input shaft though. When I searched for one I could only find them for 2015-2017 MT82.

I was very close to buying a Calimer Stage 3, but when I read some of the unsettling reviews from several of his customers, I felt like it would be a gamble on whether I got one that was done right, so I decided to build my own.

You're build seems legit. I don't have the time or the expertise to build a tranny.
look here

Stage 1:

  • Updated Ford hard parts
  • New carbon fiber synchro's
  • Billet 1-2 and 3-4 forks
  • New seals, bearings, etc.
  • Upgraded Calimer made 3rd and 4th gear.

I think if I buy this get the upgraded 3/4 gear and the billet forks with the 26 Spline input shaft it would be a pretty stout transmission (and cheaper than a Magnum XL still). I have the shifter which would be transmission mounted so the movement of the transmission during shifts shouldn't "lock out" the gates anymore.
