Edit: Oh, I see. He said blower in his post so you're notifying him that he's using the term incorrectly without being direct about it. But yeah, still, the answer to your question is that he wants a turbo.

I love the feel of a car with a turbo. However, i'm not sure there will be room for a turbo without major modifications or a different hood. You normally don't see aftermarket turbo kits for american v8 cars, at least not good ones, so I imagine you would need a reputable shop to fabricate a custom turbo set up for you

There are multiple quality kits available for mustangs. I am sure the same players will design a kit for the new car.

Don't forget that STS typically makes rear-mounted turbo kits (twin turbos), so if space under the hood is an issue - it won't matter.

I tried my cousin's 2014 gt, I wasn't impressed below 3000 rpm
I test drove a 2014 GT, and I'd have to agree. I certainly wouldn't say it's bad, but it's not like a turbo car; even a turbo-4 banger feels punchier at the really low RPMs. Get some revs going though, and it's a different story :D

He didn't drive a manual with the optional gears most likely. Any more power is unusable off the line, unless you have slicks.

This is true. I drove a GT/CS which probably didn't have the Torsen. I was able to floor it in first from a roll without any traction issues which to me means two things:

1) Not a ton of torque (torque is what breaks traction, not horsepower)
2) Probably not the higher ratio rear-end

I forgot the most important point - you must turnoff traction control. The traction control is very restrictive on these cars. I used to turn off traction control (not the stability control) all the time unless it was wet out.

Nope. Was a manual with track pack (3.73s). Clearly I walked away wanting more.

I think the new Mustang has a lot going for it, I just want instant power delivery.

I don't care about going 170 mph, or really even above 120 for that matter. But my next car will be my daily driver, so I'm really looking for a lot of low end torque for city driving.

Too late now, but see my post above about the traction control. It makes a huge difference unfortunately. I wish the Ford engineers do a little better job with it this time around. It is very intrusive, and I mirror your opinion about it feeling like an economy car with it on.

Yeah traction control was on. The car already has tons of power, I got to push it a bit on Woodword Avenue and once I got past 4,500 rpm it really screamed. I just wish it had that kind of power available without needing to build up some momentum first.

I really don't want to spend the money it takes to purchase and maintain a German car, but right now I think Audi has the right formula. I may be in the minority, but I find the new BMWs to be exceptionally droll. Just very boring interiors and the body style looks the same since the 90s. Audi has a great blend of broad power band and luxury interior - with an appropriately high cost. If I could basically get a mustang to behave similarly on the road with a turbo I'd be really happy; I'd rather have performance over luxury right now.

Personally I've always thought that if you want to go forced induction, buy the model that offers it. Why buy a 5.0 not setup for forced induction when you know there will be a model that offers it out of the box.

That's just my 2cents though.

Just curious if you've driven the Audi's you highlight.

I haven't, but I have driven a BMW 335 (with the twin turbos) and I own a VW GTI. Both have relatively well respected turbo engines, and both make great torque down low, but both also have horrible turbo lag.

I drove the 335 at an AutoX, which admittedly is about the worst case situation for exposing turbo lag, and it was not a fun experience due to the lag. I think if I owned the car I'd adapt to the lag for track driving, but for street driving it is very annoying. The GTI is similar. Less power overall but the lag leaves a similar feeling of unresponsiveness.

The only time I really like the feel of the turbo is when going up a hill. That's when you have high, steady state load at a low RPM, and the turbo really works well in that case. When you have dynamic throttle application, the lag is very evident IMO and masks the low-end torque.

So, IMO, turbos look good on a dyno and provide good advertising numbers, but aren't very fun to drive due to the lag.

I think the positive displacement supercharger that's mounted right on top of the engine with the integral intercooler is a much better way to get the low-end torque. The Audi Supercharged V6 is a good example.

Anyhow, if I wanted to get more low end, with quick response, that's the way I'd be looking.
