I finished my shifter install, was worried about NVH, turned out great!

I was worried that no matter how you jack you car up you would induce stress in the chassis. So I put mine 12" in the air on all four tires with piles of 6x6 blocks. Rolled it back and forth to relieve stress in the suspension from being lifted 6" at time side to side. Followed the video had my tablet under the car downloaded the video into mp3 file so stop frames were easy to view.

DID ONE THING NOT MENTIONED IN VIDEO, TOOK MAGIC MARKER AND OULINED WHERE THE TRANNY MOUNT WAS BEFORE UNBOLTING IT.

Upon reassemble after raising the tranny and hand starting the bolts and removing the jack the tranny mount was 1/2" off from where we started. Had to grab drive shaft and move it back. Without the marks would never
nown.

Had to adjust the reverse lockout, it was loose and had no 1stt or 2nd gear, but that was easy

So took for a drive with boot out, console off, could see right to ground. Wanted to if the voodoo did shake. MINE DON'T UP TO 7000 RPM
My GT required a little effort to return trans mount to proper alignment...great idea marking before removing.

Good thread. I've watched the video a few times and hope to get it done tomorrow or the next day. If the lift is not available to me, I'm afraid I won't get it installed before track weekend.

Good info here.

We OVER engineer the springs for both the 1-2 and the reverse lockout because all springs get a SET and lose about 10-15 percent of their force after a few hundred cycles.

give it about a month and you will love the action and feel. as far as going into 1st at a standstill USE THAT hardened lockout plate so push over until it stops and then straight up. same when going 1-2 pull slightly to the drivers door against the plate and slide right down.

Make sure you adjusted that 1-2 lockout pin properly like in the video and it will feel perfect!!

Reviving an old thread.... George after driving the car for over 1000 miles since the MGW install, I still find the centering spring tension too high. And if I pull the shifter from center to the left to go into first or second hard, the metal reverse stop bolt would hit the shifter housing and emits a loud clank. I wish you guys can provide a weaker spring for both centering and push down to reverse, and replace the lockout screw with one with a nylon head. If you can do that, you'll have the PERFECT shifter.

Just got home from my 80 mile ride home with my new MGW shifter. For whatever reason I didn't realize it would be a pushdown reverse now. Feels a bit weird finding first too. I misses getting though a stoplight because I was in 3rd and not first. I'll get used to it.

As for my other upgrades...I'm not liking my Kooks exhaust/headers. INSANLY loud. Too loud for me. And a tin-y grinding sound. I'm bummed. I feel like I ruined my car.
man I hate to hear this.... how much loud than stock is it? Open and closed valves, twice as loud? I've been really considering the headers and the shifter...

I have the Kooks Headers and midpipe. The difference for me is that I mated it all to the OEM mufflers. Its louder at WOT for sure, but I have been told that my car sounds super good when I have left venues.

I guess you have to decide for yourself. Only clip I have of my car at WOT is me having fun in mexico with a Termi and Viper.

Re the "clank" - it sounds like yours isn't installed correctly. I have one and it doesn't make any noticeable noise - a relatively quiet click, maybe, but that's it.

As to the tension in the springs, it makes it really hard to hit the wrong gear when you're in a hurry and your focus is on the track in front of you. I like it that way.
