Although, I am about half lit at the moment, so I could have done something wrong. I like to drink after work sometimes, don't judge me.
Hahaha that's funny. Sounds like me.

If you look at the video that tells you what to do when the fob is dead, you can't open the door with it. You have to pop the beauty cover off and use the key. Then stick it in the pocket and it'll start. It has to have some sort of extremely close pickup for the fob near that pocket. However, if you aren't using buttons on the key fob it should last at least twice as long I would think. Sending a signal from a button press has to consume the most power.

small update, gray print is a mockup of the shape i'm going for so i could get a feel for it, printing the halves now as i type that can hold the board and battery to see if the tolerances are good, then gonna work on somehow to clamp them together.

I may try to actually use the metal keyring portion later in an update design, but that is gonna be hard at least for me since not a 3d program expert

Actually a quick button press consumes very little power. That big square component on the board is a large inductor that is probably used to transmit a signal. The wireless communication is probably most of the battery usage.

I like what you are doing and what you have done,my thought is if you have 2 sides that fit you have succeeded, attaching them together is easy,2 small screws, one battery end the other one on other end,use a small bit to make the pilot holes and screw in the screws.
Myself I would just use electrical tape and just put a couple tight wraps around it and then just put it in my wallet, stuff it in a CC holder in wallet or in the corner of the wallet it will stay together, heck I'll take one, send it my way I'll finish attaching the two half's.
Good job on the 3-D......put me down for one....

I'd be happy with screws, should be easier to implement and in a few years when you need a battery change still easy to do.

Just drill a slot for about 4 small screw inserts on one half, then drill through the other half, with a slight countersink, and voila!

Can you do one where the buttons still work? Because that would be amazing IMO. I love remote start a little too much to use one of these as my daily key.

You'll have to take your current key apparent to take pics of the button as my fob is for the manual (4 buttons) so that way i can see the button layout difference.

Also im gonna try a few ideas with clamping and then try the screws approach next.

to put it together in a permanent fashion, just use acetone.

Another update got the components to fit inside, gonna have to thicken the wall with the buttons i can kinda click the trunk button through it. And then onto a clamping design.
