Don't know if anyone has found this out yet but just replaced my battery with a Duracell 2450 and the way they package them now it took me forever to open the battery. They not only seal it in the carboard blister package but after you open that the battery itself is double sealed totaly encased in another 360 sealed plastic case. Now I admit I old and not as strong as I use to be but it tooke me almost 5 minuets to open the encased battery as I didn't want to damage the battery by opening it with a knife

Duracell 2450.webp
Anyone else have this problem?

As a side note anyone buying FOB's off flea bay word of caution, I purched severial from them for our Mustang and Explorer all but one are fine, they all work but one when I tried to replace the battery it is totaly different, as you can't replace the battery and it's not a 2450 and is not replaceable without disassembling the FOB. The Fobs I got with the mustang on them are fine. So if you decide to buy them from there make sure to ask or see pictures of battery compartment so you don't have to do major work to replace the battery!!!

The battery packaging is due to kids (like mine) that think everything is a chew toy... I believe for coin cell batteries it's going to become more common in the future to help them avoid lawsuits over kids choking or swallowing them.

Exactly right. And it's not just choking. A fully charged button battery is capable of burning a hole in the esophagus and stomach lining.
As for opening the package, go ahead and use a blade, it won't hurt anything.

You are not alone.

Blister packs and cockroaches will out survive us all. :giggle:

Safety. Kids and pets.

I also thought of the manufacturers standardizing as much of their packaging as possible. While this was a fob or watch-type batt, some become active when exposed to oxygen. A blister pack can help prevent discharge and enable long-term storage.

Some button batteries are even coated with a bitter tasting substance to make them be spit out.

On a related topic (kids swallowing stuff) don't let them play with small rare earth magnets either. They can be deadly if swallowed and cause serious problems if shoved in other orifices.

They try to make them moron proof. We keep building and importing better morons.

Related side note- If you shove magnets up your butt you’ll surely attract said morons and the cycle continues.

Well, to a certain degree. But every care can be taken and children can still find a way. I see no harm in trying to protect our little ones.

I agree. Let’s think for a moment though about how incorporating that level of packaging affects other groups with age related or other disabilities from accessing the product conveniently. Let‘s think about the packaging waste this generates and finally but most importantly, let’s think about the poor children who were ultimately killed not so much by a product, but by their parents own lack of oversight, as the cause could easily have been any poorly placed object that could have the potential of deadly consequence.

This feels like a pie in the sky argument.
Should we rail against seat belts or airbags and the inconvenience and injuries they have caused? Or child resistant bottle caps?
If you've ever raised a child you would know that they can do unsafe things no matter how attentive or controlling you are.

We cut those packages open with strong scissors.

Ask an ER nurse how often people come in with lacerations from trying to open a plastic package with a razor knife.
nope won't work it's like it's been vacumm sealed very tight to the battery the inside package no edge just smooth and tigh tnot the blister pack.

Okay, I don't know about that specifically.

But we just cut right up close to the battery, cutting through both layers of plastic.
Maddening otherwise.

Damn, it's a wonder I managed to make it over 7 decades, and I'm still here.
I didn't realize my childhood was so dangerous. I think it was more dangerous than over 4 decades of carrying a badge, a gun, and hanging out in bad neighborhoods.

On a side note, I just changed the battery in my FOB, so I feel the OP's pain, but that's the life Karen says we have to live now.

What‘s the problem? You don’t like meeting interesting people?
Stupid decisions make great stories.
